"I was watching you at dinner." Newt said as he looked around, trying to spot something along the lines to tracking the Erumpent or his Niffler. I turned my head thinking he was talking to me.
"Yeah." Jacob said, seeming creeped out. Oh. I thought, sadness taking control of my face.
"People like you don't they Mr Kowalski." Newt turned to face Jacob, for I was on the other side of Jacob, Newt added.
"A-And you Evangeline." He seemed upset to see my face. I gave him a slight smile to let him know it was ok.
"Oh – well, I'm – I'm sure people like you, too – huh." Jacob looked to Newt then to me.
"No, not really. I annoy people. The only person who wasn't annoyed at who I am is Evangeline." Newt turned to Jacob, then took a glance at me, with something in his eyes I couldn't make out.
"Ah." Jacob said, not knowing how to answer. "What about you Evangeline?" he asked me.
"I'm quite strange. I compare everyone to a beast and have a- a – um, weird obsession to Dragons and trying to protect them. My fellow wizards don't listen and think I'm ridiculous." I told Jacob. He just nodded, not seeming to understand what I had just told him.
"Why did you decide to be a baker?" Newt changed the subject. Jacob turned to him and I looked around, trying to find a clue to help Newt.
"Ah, well, um – because I'm dying – in that canning factory. Everyone there's dying. It just crushes the life outta you. You like canned food?" Jacob asked randomly. He turned to me and I shook my head, canned food was gross. He then turned to Newt.
"No." he stated firmly.
"Me neither. That's why I want to make pastries, you know. It makes people happy." Jacob's face grew happy as he talked about his dream. I looked up and saw a sign saying, 'Central Park'.
"Is it this way, Mr Kowalski?" I asked pointing right, as the sign said.
"Yes." We all turned. "So did you get your loan?" Newt asked Jacob.
"Err, no – I ain't got no collateral. Stayed in the army too long, apparently – I don't know." He shrugged his shoulders. As I listened, I looked at Jacob finished with concern on my face. He'd been in the army...
"What, you fought in the war?" Newt took the words from my mind, shock all in his voice. He had been in the wizard army himself, only partly though.
"Of course I fought in the war, everyone fought in the war – you didn't fight in the war?" Jacob said.
"I worked mostly with dragons, Ukrainian Ironbellies – Eastern Front." Newt said, I smiled as he mentioned the biggest of the dragons. I admired those who got to work with them...I was also extremely jealous. But at least I had a dragon of my own. A Romanian Longhorn, beautiful girl named Dash. We then suddenly stopped, and I thought Newt had found a clue to the Erumpent. When I saw what he was looking at I laughed. The Niffler, was in the window of a jewellery shop. My case bung against me as I laughed. He was panting heavily as jewellery slipped of his arm. The Niffler seemed to think we hadn't seen him until he noticed Newt. He moved slightly, catching Newt's eye, Newt raised his eyebrows at the creature, they stayed like this for a few seconds. Suddenly the Niffler runs, I pull my wand out and was about to shout a spell, but Newt beat me to it.
"Finestra." He yelled, pointing his wand to the window the Niffler had been in just milliseconds ago. The glass shattered and turned to dust and Jacob came running to see what Newt just did. Newt entered, racing after his Niffler. My case rattled again.
"Carly!" I yelled, my case popped, and she jumped out, wanting all the gold for herself. As Newt opened and closed draws, I jumped in to find Carly.
I stood in the centre of the room, trying to spot something white, due to Carly's eye. A squeak came from around Newt and his Niffler scarred up and around him. Carly must have herd it due to me seeing two black objects run up a cabinet. Newt followed them, knocking everything in his way. I then realised we were the only things making sound at that very moment. My eyes followed Newt and the two Niffler's. They climbed onto the chandelier and Newt did to. He hung on, dangling of it. Carly seemed to be having the time of her life. Newt tried his hardest to grab the two Niffler's and I thought I saw a small bead of sweat from his forehead catch to his hair. I stayed my distance, so I dint get hit, but saw out of the corner of my eye, Jacob looking around thinking how people couldn't hear us. I herd a crack and turned back to look at Newt and the Niffler's. I then herd the smash of glass and a cry from Newt, the Niffler's were off again. As I saw Carly run off, I ran to grab her, Newt doing the same with his. Carly ran in all direction possible. Crashes were heard as me and Newt chased the two creatures, we both then came on a shelf on either side of the room. I looked down and saw Jacob moving towards Newt's case and mine that was on the floor, (I throw it when I raced after Carly). The glass Newt and I were leaning on began to break. His cracked first, then mine. Carly looked to me, her purple eye full of mischief. As Jacob bent down to close the clip-on Newt's case, my glass cracked. I fell with Carly and shortly after Newt fell to. Jacob shut the clip and looked at the two of us. I looked to Carly and she looked at me, she moved after seconds and I pushed myself up, quickly to try get her. When I got up Newt was running, Jacob behind him.
"ACCIO!" he yelled.
"ACCIO!" I yelled too. The two Niffler's came flying to me, all the jewels flying to Newt and Jacob. Carly grabbed the other Niffler and they spun around a lamp-post, as they let go I made them fly to the glass, which acted like a spider's web. Catching them and keeping them in place. I grabbed the two and Newt came to me, grabbing his.
"Thanks Evangeline." He grinned at me, taking his Niffler. I smiled back. "All right? Happy?" he asked his creature. Jacob was with us now, trying to catch his breath at what just happened.
"Carly, what have I told you about leaving the case." I asked her, she just looked at me. I turned to Newt who was looking at her.
"What's with her left eye?" He questioned.
"She was being attacked by a Knarl, it scratched her eye and made her go blind in her left." Carly hugged my hand and looked at me as I told Newt how I found her.
"One down, two to go." He smiled, and we turned. We met faces of policemen and sounds of sirens. Oh no.... Policemen suck! I mentally screamed.
"They went that way, officer..." Jacob pointed to an alley and I smiled at how he tried to be innocent. If I was one of these Muggle's I wouldn't believe him for he had jewellery all over him.
"Hands up!" one yelled, raising his gun. I moved Carly into my pocket, for my jacket was in my case.
"What the hell is THAT?" another yelled, addressing Newt's hand. He hid it under his coat. I then heard walking and so did Jacob, but he must have seen it because he said,
"Lion..." he could just get the words out. I turned in illusion with Newt and the Policemen to see a 'lion' walking over to us.
"You know, New York is considerably more interesting then I'd expected." Newt told me, calmly. I nodded in agreement, Newt then grabbed my hand and touched Jacob. We Disapparated into thin air, escaping the Policemen.
