When I got to the station all my info was taken down. Well what they could get out of me. I was still in disbelief and it was also almost 4 in the morning and I was tired. They brought me in another room where another officer treated me for shock.

"Okay so your gonna have to sit tight here for awhile and we will have a social worker here to meet with you first thing in the morning. Try your best to rest." I was lead to the front office that had chairs lining one wall and a big desk in front of different door ways. I sat in one of the uncomfortable chairs and I don't know if it was a combination of exhaustion and grief but I pulled the leather jacket closer around me and completely fell asleep.

"This is her. Riley? Riley! Wake up!" I felt a hand patting my arm and immediately jolted up ready to fight.

"Hey it's okay. This is your social worker Ms.Hann. She will assure we find you a place to stay." Officer Davis Said. Ms.Hann who stood next to him had a kind and understanding smile. She was an taller than me but had a smaller build. Her pant suit seemed to bunch up on her and her dark hair was loose around her shoulders and swayed when she nodded.

"Hi Riley. It's nice to meet you. I'm so sorry that these are the circumstances your experiencing but I'm going to try and make this as easy as possible for you. Come on we can take more in a conference room." Ms.Hann and Officer Davis lead the way down a hall and into another room. I sat down across from Ms.Hann as the officer left. She started pulling out all kinds of files from her brief case.

"So I've heard you haven't been saying very much which is okay. Your handling some major grief. But I need you to help me." She smiled and I just looked down at the table. "Did your dad have any family that you knew about? His parents or maybe siblings? Did you know anyone on your moms side?" She questioned. She was sweet and eager to help me. I had to let her help.

"No. It was just us. I don't have anyone." I sighed slowly and she nodded.

"Okay. So before we look into any emergency placement in a group home or foster care, I'd like to run your fathers name through the system and see if we find anyone. Is that okay?" I nodded and she grabbed a file and walked out of the room.

I knew she wouldn't find anyone. If I had family dad would of said something at some point in my 16 years. My mom passed away during childbirth with me. So her family wasn't even a conversation. I only found out that I was what killed her when dad was drunk once and I asked him. That's what he told me. I've never even seen a picture of her.

Family was always a meaningless word to me anyways. A family meant more than 2 people. Everyone at my school growing up had at-least 2 parents or other siblings. I didn't even care about the kids that had two moms or two dads. At least they had more than one. Don't get me wrong I loved my dad. But when we fought, or he got drunk, or when his bad friends would come over, it sucked having no where to run.

It seemed like only a few moments but it had really been half and hour when Ms.Hann came back in the room.

"Okay so we ran your fathers name through our system and found out he has a brother living in Riverdale." She smiled a hopeful smiled and my back automatically straightened. Brother? How could he have not even mentioned it? I have a secret uncle?

"We have to get in contact with him and see how he feels about taking you in. I have a good feeling about this Riley. Things will be okay. But I think you should know. They buried your father this morning. His body was claimed but with you being his only living recorded relative til we found his brother, no one could arrange a funeral. He is at rest now." She came around and hugged me but I didn't hug back. She straightened.

"Dad wouldn't of wanted a funeral anyways." I Said and shrugged. She seemed put off by my lack of emotion but tried not to show it. She stepped out into the hall to make some halls.

So my father was found dead in an alley 7 hours ago and he is already buried. Now I could be shipped off to live with a mysterious never before seen uncle. My head is spinning trying to keep up with everything that's happened.

I start thinking about the trailer and how hard my dad worked to afford our place. It's our place I can't just leave it.

I slowly rise from the chair and see Ms.Hann still busy on her phone. I sneak out of the conference room and make it to the front office. I snatch my back pack off a chair where I'd left it and headed towards the door.

"Where are you going?" The lady behind the desk asked. I looked at her and then bolted. I heard her yell "Somebody stop her!" Before the door closed behind me. I broke out into a run down the street. I didn't stop or look behind me. I knew this town like the back of my hand, every alley, every turn. I ducked behind buildings and didn't stop running until I came to an end between two apartment buildings. I used to feed the stray cats here as a child, but now it was deserted. I leaned my back against the brick and caught my breath.

"Well well. Awful early for you to be out isn't it?" I heard a deep gruff voice behind me. "Where's your daddy baby doll? He's late on his delivery." I turned to see one of my dads regulars. A meth addict with no teeth left. I didn't know his name but he clearly knew me.

"Dads dead man. You won't get your delivery anytime soon." I pushed my self off the wall and stood in front of him. I came to his shoulder but I wasn't afraid. If need be I had the switch in my pocket.

"Well someone better give me something." He stepped closer and I stepped back. My hand fell over my pocket for the switch. He was moving closer when I heard the sirens. They quickly got closer.

He observed my face change and his face changed into a toothless grin. "Oh the little girl is running. I don't know what from but you be damned sure they are gonna catch you." He cornered me in the back and as I hauled out the switch. We were about to fight when the cops ran up behind him.

"Drop your weapon! Hands where I can see them!" There were three of them holding guns. The man lazily turned around and threw up his hands. I hesitated but threw the switch on the ground and raised my arms to.

"Riley!" Officer Davis called from a car behind the others. "Come on. You have no where to run from here. We had witnesses see you run here and we will always find you. Come on." I bent to grab the switch when I was yelled at again. So I had to leave it there. I walked with my hands up towards his car. He immediately cuffed me and pushed me in the back.

"What the hell is with the cuffs?" I Said shaking my hands behind my back.

"You had a weapon and you could have more. I can't take any chances." He got in the drivers seat and started driving. I noticed Officer Miller wasn't here this time she must of had something to do.

I assumed we were going to the station. But we drove right past it.

"What the hell? Where are we going?" I shifted around more aggravated.

"That uncle of yours we found, he just got released from prison today. Ms.Hann doesn't care much for runaways. I was told to drop you off at his place and that's it. Sit tight Riley it's a while til we get there." He stared straight ahead as we drove and made no attempt at conversation. My arms aches from being pinned behind my back.

Now I'm going to live with and ex convict. Not that that is an issue because I've done my fair share of illegal. But he probably doesn't even know about me. I'll show up and be rejected and lost in a strange town.

Damn, I'm screwed
