Backstory: She was born in Orlando, Florida, and grew up there living as a normal girl. She went to school, she got good grades, she was just, normal. But that all changed one night when she was fifteen. She and her brothers were out running some errands for their parents, though Monica got separated from her older brothers in the city. She ended up getting caught in a storm, and she ducked into an abandoned building for shelter from the intense rain. Though because of the buildings age, it was crumbling, and she fell through the floor to a pit below ground. While she was searching for a way out of the pit, she came across the Crimson Beetle. It latched onto her spine in an extremely painful process, which knocked her unconscious. When she woke up, she was in the hospital. She was told that rescuers found her in that pit, and she thought that after she was released from the hospital that everything would go back to normal, she was wrong. Her life would never be the same, and she would never be normal again.

• Being the youngest of four children, one could say she acts more like a boy than a girl.
• She was found by Dinah Drake, who made her join the Teen Titans.
• Monica's beetle is anything but friendly. It's vicious and enjoys causing destruction. It's goal is to destroy earth and bring ruin to all, but Monica won't let it.
