Jack ran. He ran faster than he ever has before. Sarah said she had been texting Katherine and she said she was going for a walk. Jack knew there were woods by her house and was almost positive that's where he would take her.
Jack couldn't stop horrible thoughts from filling his head while he was running. What if she's hurt? This is all my fault. She'll never forgive me.
Finally Jack reached the woods by Katherine's house. He stopped for a moment, wondering how he would be able to find her. Jack never had to solve this problem, because while he was standing there something struck him in the back of the head. He turned around only to be hit again in the eye by an angry looking Morris. He went to strike again but Jack was ready this time, dodging his fist and striking him in the throat. Jack wasn't quite sure how long they'd been fighting, it was all a blur to him. Sometime during the fight Morris had started using a sharp rock he found on the ground as a weapon against Jack. For a while Jack lost hope, but eventually he gained the upper hand. The second Morris started to get hurt he ran off. Jack wanted to follow him but he had more important matters. Where is Katherine?
"Jack?" Jack turned around to the sound of Katherine's voice. He was still shaking from the anger, fear, and adrenaline of the fight. He ran up to Katherine and pulled her into a hug. He buried his nose in her soft hair and tried to hold back tears. This is all my fault.
"I'm so sorry Katherine," he said, still shaking.
"Jack–"
"Are you okay? I was so worried. I..."
"Jack you're hurt"
"What?"
"You're bleeding we need to get you a first aid kit"
"No I'm fine. Did he hurt you? I swear I'll kill 'im. I'm so sorry Kath." Jack noticed a bruise on her cheek and scratches along her right arm.
"Jack it's okay, I'm okay..." her voice trailed off when she noticed the tears running down his face. She assumed they were from pain, but in reality they were from him worrying about Katherine's safety.
"I was so worried he'd hurt you Kath," Jack cried. Katherine was genuinely surprised. He seemed to actually have been worried about her.
"Jack, I'm okay," she said reassuringly.
Katherine
Jack winced as Katherine washed out a cut on his arm."Thank you again, Jack," she said, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Don't mention it," he said, staring at the ground.
"I'm serious, Jack," Katherine said, bandaging up the worst of the cuts. "For all I know, if you didn't come I could've died." Jack pulled her into a hug.
"Now you knows I'd never let that happen," he said. "He didn't hurt ya too bad did he?"
"I'm...fine." Katherine said, thinking back to the time spent in the woods before Jack came to her rescue.
"Listen, Katherine, I am so sorry."
"It's fine it's not your fault. You saved me."
"Yeah but he probably only attacked you to try to get to me. You shouldn't've been involved in this mess in the first place." Jack's voice wavered a little as he said this.
"Jack, you can't blame yourself for what he did." Jack forced a small smile.
"No, I know. I'm just... I'm just glad you're okay."

Jack started to walk Katherine home after the incident with the Delancey's. It was a sweet gesture, but Katherine wasn't sure about Jack. He still had the maturity of a seventh grader and the only sign that he cared about Katherine was the efforts he made to protect her. Her dad still hated him, but Katherine didn't really care.
