I didn't get anymore sleep for that night, I just stayed up on my phone. When Paige woke up, I was a bit worried that she'd somehow find out that we ate about half of her Oreos. But she didn't. Now Morgan, Jewl, Paige and I were all sitting on the porch in our bathing suits but not wanting to get into the lake yet, even though the others were already goofing around in the lake.
"So why don't you just go ask this 'guy'?" Morgan asked Jewl. She had told us that there was a guy she really liked but didn't know if he liked her. My curiosity was burning, but I simply sat and listened.
"Because he's a guy! You don't just ask that," Jewl exclaimed. Morgan gave her an odd look.
"So what if he doesn't like you like that? Couldn't you guys still be friends? And you girls say that we're the confusing ones.." Morgan took a sip of his lemonade and leaned back. He made a valid point, but Jewl refused to see it.
"No, it'd be so awkward! Besides, I have a feeling he likes this other girl... No, not even likes, I think he's in love with her." Held got hip and started pacing, "And I don't think the girl likes me, like maybe I made her mad for going after the guy when she obviously likes him but she doesn't know he likes her and so I'm stuck hoping that I'm just getting the wrong vibes but maybe I'm not and AAAAHHHH I just hate love problems!"
"So, who is this guy? We promise not to tell," I said, finally chiming in on our conversation. Jewl looked at me and sighed.
"Promise?" She asked, shifting uncomfortably.
"Yes, we promise," all of us replied in unison. She bit her lip and groaned, throwing her head backwards.
"Okay.... I like Ash. Just, please don't tell him!" Oh my... Well, isn't this interesting? She likes the guy who I might have the slightest crush on. A simple crush, that's it. But who in the world was this "other girl?"
"Oh." Paige giggled and Morgan's eyes widened at her confession. I honestly can't blame her, because who wouldn't fall for his good looks, silly but sexy personality, and incredible charm?
"Hey, come join us!" Christine hollered from her spot in the lake, breaking our awkward silence. I gave Paige a look that said, 'I'll race ya'. She nodded and stood up, taking a head start. I shouted in complaint before running after her, my pineapple print bikini feeling soft against my skin as I ran.
As soon as my feet hit the sand, I realised why I stayed up in the shade: To avoid the heat. I yelped and started jumping across the sand and into the lake. Paige and Morgan had beat me, but Jewl was still far behind. I started to slowly doggy paddle across the lake to where everyone else is. I'll admit it, I'm not the greatest swimmer, but I'm good enough to keep myself from drowning.
I made it over shortly after Jewl did, since apparently she's an extremely great swimmer. She literally sped past me. And got water in my face.
"Can't you swim?" Ash teased. I rolled my eyes and tried swimming the way normal people would, but that's not quite what I got. Instead, I'm swimming like a panicked lion who just fell into water.
"Of course I can swim, you idiot," I replied derogatorily once I reached him. He simply grinned and returned to his conversation with the boys. I tried to ignore him--Successfully, might I add--and enjoyed my terrible swimming with Paige , who is way better at swimming than I was.
"Heads up!" I heard Ash shouting before he spiked a volleyball he'd apparently had on him. I squealed and smacked it away. What can I say? Sports and grace just aren't my forte. "You're supposed to hit it back to us, Sunshine." Ash groaned and swam over to get the volleyball. Since it was closer to me, I grabbed it and decided to start a different game. One I'm extremely good at.
"Keep away!" I smacked the ball over to Paige , who caught it and dove underwater. She was really graceful with water. After she came back up for air, Paige chucked the volleyball over her head to Morgan, who caught it and started swimming away. Kyle took Ash's side and tackled Morgan, but not quick enough to stop him from throwing it to Christine. She had to throw it back to me before Ben, who also took Aah's side, got to her. I grabbed the ball and swam away from Ash , who was quickly catching up. Curse my rubbish aquatics.
I his soft hands pull on my hips, forcing me backwards. I kicked harder, debating on if I should deliberately kick him or not. My brains and gut screamed yes, but my tender heart pleaded no. I should listen to my heart more often...but I don't.
I kicked upwards, landing him a kick in the gut with my heel, though it wasn't as hard as I could have kick him. Ash coughed and let go immediately, pressing his hands on the area where I had kicked him. He looked at me, an annoyed but somewhat playful look in his eyes, and scowled, "You little cheek, that's just another thing added to your list." I think I was the only one to hear. Everyone else was busy splashing, laughing, squealing, and pretending to be water benders from Avatar.
"What list?" I giggled and swam away from him slowly. He followed at the same pace.
"You'll see." He suddenly sped up his swimming, obviously going for the ball again, so I threw it as hard as I could towards the group. I watched Jewl catch it and Ash swimming towards her now. I sighed, pleased with my escape. But he left me with so many questions. That little twerp.
