I reached the bottom step to find Ash making Chicken Alfredo and a Foosball table being used by Paige, Ben, Kyle, and Christine in the living room. Jewl was helping Ash and Morgan was being ref for the game of Foosball. I shuffled into the kitchen to get a glass of water and maybe an early bite of supper.
"Morning, Sunshine,"Ash laughed when he saw me. I frowned and stuck my tongue out at him.
"So why is it that only you two have nicknames?" Jewl asked, reminding me of her presence. I wasn't in the mood for talking, especially since my voice sounds super gross when I wake up, so I gave Ash a look that told him it was his turn to explain.
"Eh, I give lots of girls nicknames. Paige is Pai-Pai, Kayla here is Sunshine, et cetera." He shrugged and started dishing out the Alfredo. I took the first plate and sat myself down on the couch.
"Yeah, but she called you Kitten," Jewl pointed out. She sounded kind of jealous.
"What, you Jewl-ous?" I said in my raspy voice, making a stupid pun. She shot me a glare and Ash looked over at me in surprise. Was my voice really that shocking? "C'mon, my voice isn't that bad!" I complained, earning a few laughs from the Foosball gamers.
"It sounds like nails on a chalkboard," Ash joked as he handed out plates.
"I thought she sounds more like a cheese grater on iron," Morgan piped in.
"I thought it was more of a squealing donkey," Christine laughed. We all got into a contest to see who could think up the most absurd sound, which ended in Ben shooting Alfredo out of his nose due to laughter. After Ben got himself cleaned up, we all tried to settle in on the small couch so that we could watch Princess Bride, much to the boys discontent.
Christine cuddled up next to Ben on one side of the couch, Paige and Jewl sat next to each other on the floor, Morgan was spread out on the other side of the couch, and Ash sat in the middle. Not watching to sit on the cold, hard floor, I decided to make things awkward and sit on Ash's knee. I mean, I wasn't trying to make anything awkward, but I hadn't thought it through before sitting down. Now it'd just be weird to move onto the floor. Ash didn't seem bothered by the seating arrangement, surprisingly enough.
"Here's some blankets," Paige said as she passed a blanket to Morgan, Ash, Christine, and Jewl. That was all the extras she had down here, so we'd have to share. After we all got comfortable, Paige started the movie. For some reason, I just couldn't stopped shifting and squirming. It was difficult to get comfortable, which bothered me.
"Stop moving," Ash groaned and pulled me from my spot on his leg to his lap. My heart started hammering and I quit moving. I simply watched to movie, occasionally dropping in my character impressions because I've seen this movie so many times. My favorite quote came up and I prepared my voice to imitate the annoying voice of Vizzini.
Three. Two. One. "Inconceivable!" I got Paige to giggle, Jewl and Morgan to crack up in laughter, Christine to let out a lone laugh, and Ben to stifle a laugh. It's clear I'm the biggest clown in the room. Ash chuckled and rested his chin on my shoulder. I tensed slightly, but nobody noticed his movement, so I let myself relax a bit. This is going to be a fun vacation, no matter what. I continued watching the movie, trying to ignore my location.
"Hey, I want some blanket too," I hissed as Ash tried to keep it all to himself.
"What, should I swaddle you like a baby?" Ash joked. How would he ever know how to swaddle a baby?
"Pfft, I doubt you even know how," I challenged, giving him a pre-satisfied smirk. Ash coughed and got Paige to pause the movie. Oh God, what did I just get myself into?
"Challenge accepted." Ash picked me up bridal style with the blanket slung over his shoulder and carried me over to the table. Usually I'd be slapping and punching, but As already has a 99% chance of winning. It's a waste of effort. He spread the blanket across the bare table and sat me down on it. I sat up and frowned, now regretting my words.
"On second thought, maybe you should just keep the blanket," I said. What was this? I never give in so easily! What was this bullshit coming out of my mouth?
"Nope, I'm not one to back down from a challenge," Ash replied before pushing my shoulders back, making me lie on my back. To my surprise, he actually knew how to swaddle. In less than two minutes, he had me stuck in a blanket, my hands pressed tight against my chest and my legs bent and pressed against my stomach. He picked me up again, now like I was a tiny baby, and used a baby voice to say, "Aww, did I prove the wittle baby wrong?"
"Shut up," I mumbled, my face flushing with embarrassment. Jewl laughed and took a picture of Ash holding me while I tried to hide my face. Note to self: Never challenge Ash.
"How do you even know how to swaddle?" I asked after Ash put me down and let me out of the blanket entrapment.
"I have a little sister, remember?" Oh, right. I completely forgot about her.
"The one who you watch My Little Pony with?" I asked, just to give him a dose of embarrassment. He would never live this down. Of course she was, even I knew that. Everyone stifled a laugh at my comment. Except for Ash, of course.
"You better run, like right now," he said seriously. I ran outside as he chased after me, everybody else following us. I made it onto the sand that replaced the green grass by the lake before Ash tackled me.
Suddenly a whole wrestling session began, everyone tackling the person nearest to them. As soon as I pushed Ash off of me, Jewl got me. Jewl and I wrestled terribly, just trying to push each other into the lake, but I'll have to admit that she was just a little bit better than me. And that little bit caused her to be able to push me stumbling backwards towards the lake. I couldn't catch my balance, so I grabbed onto Ash for support, though that only brought him down into the lake with me.
I yelped as my body hit the ice cold water, and the whole group laughed. I joined in on the laughter as I saw my reflection; we both looked like drowned rats. I stood up so that I could get out, but Ash had other plans. "Gotcha!" He exclaimed as he tackled me back into the water. I started splashing him and squealing when he splashed me back. Behind us, the wrestling groups had continued.
"You guys should go get changed before you catch a cold!" Paige informed us. We took her advice and wasted no time racing to the house.
I ran upstairs to my room and quickly stripped out of my soaked clothes, changing into new, dry undergarments. I pulled on some soft sweatpants and started my search for a warm shirt.
"Damn, girl." I screamed and jumped back before seeing Ash leaning against the doorframe. I ogled at his muscles and abs before he pulled his shirt on. That's when I realised I'm still in a bra without a shirt.
"Ash! Privacy!" I hissed. He only shrugged, as if he was used to seeing this stuff. Oh wait, he was. First he sees me without pants, now without a shirt. Not to mention all those other girls he hooks up with. This boy...
"Hey, you didn't turn on a light. How was I supposed to know?" He used an innocent voice, but I know he's anything but innocent.
"That doesn't give you any right to be peeking in my room!" I countered as he slowly stepped forward. "Don't you even try to apologize with some hug," I warned him. He raised his eyebrows and his lips were tugged into that stupid smirk of his, and I couldn't help but think that I saw a little bit of lust in his eyes.
"Oh no, a hug would be too simple," he replied mysteriously with a husky voice that made him at least 20× more sexy. No, bad Kayla! Snap out of it! I found myself pinned between him and a wall, his eyes sparkling in the darkness. He slowly leaned in, to which I instinctively closed my eyes. And he enwrapped me in a hug, bursting out in laughter. "Why'd you close your eyes? Did you think I was going to kiss you?"
I ducked my face, which was now bright red. "You're such a tease," I complained before pushing him away and finding myself a shirt. My heart wouldn't stop racing, no matter how hard I tried. Ash sat down on my bed, still laughing.
He's such a confusing person.
