|~Epilogue~|
I hit the lift button and began to tap my heel whilst I waited for it to arrive. 5pm; work quitting time. Eventually, it arrived and the doors open. Inside stood Eric- my boss. His dark hair was swept back and he was wearing a grey suit, like always it seemed. I stepped inside next to him and clicked the button.
"Did you get that report in?" He asked me.
"Yes I did. At 2pm this afternoon."
"Good. Are you coming to the company's party tonight? It would be good to at least drop by if you want to go for promotion."
"I plan to, don't worry."
"Are you finally going to bring this mystery fiancée that no one has ever met. The guy who is preventing me from asking you out."
"Oh yes because me having a fiancée is the reason I would say no to that." I said giving him a sarcastic look.
"So you are saying if I wasn't your boss you would finally say yes. Let's hope you get that promotion then."
"You are forgetting I have fiancée. Your mind likes to wander quickly." The lift stopped and the doors opened, we both stepped out.
"Come on admit it. You wear the ring so no one hits on you. I will ever be waiting for the day you give in to you feelings for me." He smirked before walking away from me.
I left the building and headed for the subway. He reminded of Klaus a little with his charming and clever nature. I do feel a little something for him, but I think that's due to me missing Klaus. It's been 5 years since Klaus left me at my door after my graduation. Since then, I have moved to New York and somehow landed a job at a big publishing company. The only people that I stay connected with from before is Angela, Joey, Bonnie, Caroline and Jeremy. Me and Hayley tried to keep in touch but in the end time became our enemy. Maybe it was better that way; no connection helped to keep me safe.
I got on the train and sat down. Living in the city was great. Despite having a small apartment which I shared with a familiar face, the big city seemed to offer me a lot. At large it was a home, but below the surface the hustle and bustle kept me busy. It was a wonderful distraction. One moment of thinking about the pain Klaus would be in locked in that basement and my day would be over; I would spend the rest of it in bed crying.
The train arrived at my spot and I got off. Leaving the station, I headed for my apartment which was one block away from the station. Finally, after a few flights of stairs, I put my key in the door and headed inside. The apartment was quite modern with a few vintage quirks here and there. I flicked off my heels and headed over to the kitchen where Jeremy stood eating a pizza. He passed me a slice and I tucked in.
"How was your day?" I asked him between bites.
"Good. I tracked down another vampire during my break." He smiled.
We had moved here together after Jeremy landed a place in a MA class at NYU and he had stopped a number of vampire attacks across the city. I choose to come with him since it would be a clean break for me. So during the day he attended his classes whilst juggling a job at a local gym and during the night he hunted the vampire who were acting out of line. We lived a good life and it had helped us become best friends in the process.
"Acting out of line?"
"Feeding during the day. Needed to be done."
