Fiona was awoken by a strange noise in the middle of the night, carefully she moved away from Charming who was sleeping peacefully. Tiptoeing away from the bed she walked out to her balcony, looking down she was confused as there was nothing there.

Shaking her head she walked back towards the bed, another noise. Outside of her door this time, walking to the door she opened it and looked down the dark halls. "Hello?" She whispered softly.

Silence.

Taking one last glance at her sleeping prince she slowly walked out into the hall, with each few steps the noise got louder and louder.

She stopped at the kitchen as the noise was loudest there, shakily she extended her hand and opened the door.

Inside was a mule stuffing its face full of waffles that were in the freezer, opening the door wider the kitchen was a mess!

Clearing her throat the mule looked at her with cheeks puffed of waffle. Fiona narrowed her eyes "can I help you?" The mule swallowed and grinned sheepishly. "Uh the waffles were already like this when I got here!"

Fiona looked around confused then back at the mule "You can talk!?" The mule nodded "Yes girl I most certainly can talk!" Fiona scratched her head "man..I must be dreaming..mules can't speak"

The mule snorted "who you calling a mule!? I'm donkey for your information!" Fiona started to panic as she backed up to the door.

"Wait! Don't leave!" Donkey begged. "You're Princess Fiona right?" Fiona took one last look at the door and nodded. "Uh yes? I'm Princess Fiona? But why do YOU want to know that?"

Donkey jumped up and down happily "Great I found you then! You have to come with me!" Fiona shook her head "no way, I'm not going anywhere. Especially with a talking donkey!"

Donkey hurried over to her "it's not like that! I really need your help!" Fiona looked at him, the look in his eyes were pretty convincing. With a sigh she looked back at him. "Alright, just let me wake pri-" donkey gave a gasp "no no no! I only need you alone!"

Fiona was confused, why would he just want her for? And not to tell anyone else? "Hmm I guess so?" Donkey jumped up and down again "great follow me!" Fiona watched him walk out and quickly scribbled a note and followed donkey out.

When they were outside of the castle grounds she looked down at him "so where exactly ARE you taking me donkey?" Donkey looked up cheerfully "to my village of course!"

Fiona was confused again "donkeys have villages?" Donkey shook his head "I mean the village where I live, with people!" Worried, she continued to follow him.

The sun was just starting to rise as they made it out of the leafy forest. Charming will be waking up soon "Hey Donkey, how much further is this village?" Donkey started to speed up as they came to a tall grassy hill. "Not much farther! Just over this hill princess!"

Stopping and sighing at the hight of the hill, she gathered all her strength and started to make her way over it. On the bright side the grass was lush and green, very soft too.

They finally came to the top of the hill "you can see the whole village from upon this hill." Donkey said in awe looking over the little village.

Fiona scrunched her nose at the smell as they made a steady pace down the hill, rotting carcasses on the stone path, food flung everywhere like it was nothing. A little girl went to pick an apple off a cart and a wrinkly old man with one white eye batted her hand away.

"Go on! Geet!" The words he spoke sort of came out discombobulated, the little girl started to run off and tripped. Getting up and dusting herself of she ran behind a building.
