"What is this place mama?" A tiny little donkey asked his mother. The mother Donkeys eyes darted around in panic, there's no way out! There's no way out! "Don't worry Donkey, we'll be fine"

The truth was, mother donkey didn't know where they were. They were crammed into a black bar cage with little amounts of hay on the bottom. "Will we ever get out and go back to the meadow?" He asked with a tilt of his head.

Mother donkey bit her lip, she hated lying to her son. Especially since he was so young. "Yes dear, one day we will go back to the meadow.."

Donkey lay his head on one of her legs "why are we in here anyway? It's scary." Mother donkey looked down at her son, so much love passed through her heart she thought she was dreaming.

"I'm not too sure my dear. Try and rest" she said with a soft nuzzle on the top of his head. Donkey gave a wide yawn "but I'm not..sleepy..." he mumbled before falling asleep.

"Oh my precious son, I wish you didn't have this kind of fate..." she looked away with a heavy sigh and closed her eyes, remembering the sight they just witnessed.

"Where's donkey!?" Mother donkey shouted over a gun shot. Father donkey cringed as another gun went off. "I'm not too sure" he squinted his eyes over the hazy meadow.

There were hunters everywhere! Shooting Donkeys, jamming them in wagons, cramming them in cages. "Alice, find donkey and get out of here!"

"James I can't leave you!" James looked at Alice. "For the safety of our son you must. I'll distract the hunters as long as I can. Whatever you do, do not look back.."

Alice's eyes stretched wide "don't leave me James! I can't loose you!" She screeched. "You won't! I'll come back for you!" He broke off and hung his head.

"But if I don't, I hope Donkey knows that he has been loved. Even if he doesn't remember me, I hope he knows that." James whispered before taking off.

Alice felt her emotions work their way up, shaking her head she charged through the smoke "Donkey!" She raised her voice over the commotion. "Donkey where are you!?"

"Mama!" Donkeys voice sounded. "Donkey?" She called. "Mama! Mama over here!" Alice ran over to where she could hear her sons voice and nudged him up on his feet.

"Are you alright?! Are you hurt!?" Donkey shook his head shaking. "Mama I'm scared!" He cried shaking beside her. "Shh it's alright dear I'm here."

"There's one over there on it's two back legs! After it!" A hunter called near by. Could that be James? Alice turned her head to see if it was him. Donkeys squeal made her turn back to him quickly. Her pupils dilated as she saw a hunter holding her son by his tail.

The hunter smirked and grabbed her by the neck, he threw donkey into a cage and then Alice. Alice frantically tried to bust the cage open.

"What's gonna happen to us mama?!" Donkey panicked. Alice turned to her son, her mind whirling. "I don't know dear."

She snapped her head around as she heard some of the hunters shouting. "What's going on?" Donkey asked trying to look. Alice didn't answer.

He eyes were locked onto the hunters who were surrounding James. He was panting hard and bleeding heavily. She was so focused on watching James she didn't hear Donkey ask another question.

One of the hunters had James backed into a corner now, there was no where for him to escape. Heart in her throat she begged silently for a way for him to escape.
