I open my eyes to realize that I'm sitting in a chair in Connor's room, my head on top of his stomach, and our hands are still gripped together.
I feel great but horrible at the same time. Connor is going to be okay, which is a relief. But my back hurts because of the way I fell asleep, my eyes feel droopy from the amount of sleep I got and crying all day. But it's all worth it if it means Connor will be okay.
I lift my head up to see Connor still sleeping. Happy that he is alive, I smile. My dad is at home taking a well-needed shower and my mom is resting back at our house.
Connor opens his eyes.
"Callie?" He says confused because he doesn't know where he is.
"Hey," I say smiling.
"What happened?"
"Well, you go into a car accident..."
"I did, how?"
"You tell me. We have no idea, all we knew was that you were in a car accident. Did you remember anything from Halloween?"
"The last thing I remember was dancing."
"You don't remember getting in a car?"
"No..."
"Well, all that matters now is that you're okay."
"Is dad mad?"
"No, he's mostly worried, but he's definitely going to have questions."
"Ughhh. My head hurts."
"Guess what?"
"What?"
"Mom's still your emergency contact."
"Really? Is she here?"
"Yea, she at home resting right now. We had no idea where you were for hours and then we got the call from mom."
"I'm sorry for putting you guys through so much."
"Yeah. You could have died on us, Connor. The doctor says you have Diffuse Axonal Injury. Are you sure you don't remember anything?"
"Yeah, I'm sure. What is that?"
"Basically there was a chance you couldn't talk."
"Man it was that bad?"
"Yeah. But back to how you got into this situation. Tell me the truth Connor, did you drink alcohol?"
"No, of course I didn't. You know better than that Callie."
"Ok, ok, but how could you not remember anything?"
"Maybe someone spiked my drink."
"Who would do that though?"
"I have a person in mind."
"Who?"
"This kid named Liam. He's been after me ever since his girlfriend dumped him, and he thinks it's because of me."
"How come I've never heard of this before?"
"I thought you wouldn't care."
"I probably wouldn't, but like we should still tell each other these things. I want to know more about your life Connor."
"Same here Callie. So speaking of your life, Daniel?" Connor asks with a smirk.
"Oh shoot. I told him we would talk about what happened that night and I forgot."
"Don't worry I'm sure he will understand once you tell him, but what happened that night?"
"We kissed..." I say, my facing getting red.
"Awww, I ship it."
I'm sorta happy that Connor ships Daniel and I together.
"Thanks," I say.
I grab out my phone and text Daniel. He's in school right now but I don't care. I don't want him to think I blew him off.
Text convo between Callie and Daniel.
Callie: Hey! I'm sorry, I completely forgot about talking about last night. Turns out Connor got into a car accident, so I had to wait for him to get out of surgery. But he's out of surgery now, so we can talk now!
Daniel: Thank god he's okay! Are you available this weekend?
Callie: Yea, that will be a great distraction. What are we doing?
Daniel: It's a surprise!
I smile. Is this a date?
I hear rapid beeping coming from one of the machines in Connor's room. I look over at Connor to see him passed out. My heart starts racing a mile a minute.
"HELP! SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP MY BROTHER!"I yell as loud as I can.
Nurses come rushing into the room. They call out a bunch of gibberish I don't understand, and the next thing I know a doctor comes in and grabs out a defibrillator. He tells the nurses to charge to a number and then he places the defibrillator on Connor's chest. A shock goes through his body. They do this 3 more times, and then I hear a long beep coming from the monitor. Then the doctor says:
"Time of death 12:33."
