A week's gone by and according to the doctor, Connor is recovering fast. My mom had to head back to LA for work reasons, but on Friday I watched him take his first steps since the accident.
"You can do this Connor!" I encourage him as he wobbles over to me.
A lot of people around school have been asking me if they can visit Connor. Of course, I ask Connor first, and it turns out he is really popular. Every day there would be a new group of kids visiting Connor to see how he's doing. We decided, for now, to just focus on him getting better and not worrying about who might have spiked his drink.
Today is now Saturday and Daniel and I are "hanging out." We never officially called it a date, but it's just me and him doing something. I still don't know what it is, so I decided to dress up, just in case. I'm wearing a romper, with knee-high boots and some jewelry. When I walk into Connor's room he asks:
"Why are you so dressed up to go to the hospital today?"
"I'm hanging out with Daniel later," I say.
"Hanging out."
"Yes. Hanging out."
Connor gives me a smirk.
"Is it just the two of you?" He asks.
"Yes," I say.
"Then it's a date."
"He never said it was."
"Oh come on Callie. If a guy wants to hang out with you alone it means it's a date."
I smile. I hear my phone beep and go grab it. It's Daniel.
Text convo between Callie and Daniel.
Daniel: Is it okay if I come in 30 minutes?
Callie: Yeah, perfect! Can you pick me up at the hospital though?
Daniel: Yeah, but where do I go.
Callie: Wing E, room 204. Tell them you're here to see Connor.
Daniel: Ok sounds good! Love how I'm picking you up on our first date at a hospital."
Callie: Haha yea.
Daniel: See you soon!
Callie: Bye!
Connor must have noticed me smiling because he asked what was going on.
I told him that Daniel called it a date and he said "Awwww, Callie and Daniel sitting in a tree-"
He got cut off by my dad coming in and saying "K-I-S-S-I-N-G."
"Guys stop. Please." I say, feeling my face get red.
They laugh.
"Please don't embarrass me guys."
"Hmm I don't know about that," Connor says.
45 minutes later Daniel walks into the room. He's wearing cargo shorts and a plaid button-down shirt.
"Hey, sorry I'm a little late, I got lost," Daniel says as I get up to hug him.
"It's fine, I know it can be confusing," I respond.
"You look beautiful," Daniel says.
I blush.
"Sorry about you're accident bro," Daniel says gesturing towards Connor sitting in his hospital bed.
"Thanks, did you know that when Callie was 7 she laughed so hard that milk came snorting out of her nose?" Connor said.
My face immediately gets red and I give Connor a look, he's laughing really hard now.
Just then my dad walks through the door.
"Hey Daniel," he says patting him on the shoulder.
"Hey Mr. Wilson," Daniel says uncomfortably.
"Please, call me David here. But not in school, ok kid?"
"Ok." Daniel says.
"So what do you guys have planned?" my dad asks.
"Um it's a surprise Mr.Wilson."
"David."
"Sorry, right, David."
"Uh we should probably get going," I say, desperately wanting to go.
"Don't have too much fun," both my brother and dad say at the same time.
Daniel and I walk out the door.
"I am so sorry for them," I tell him.
"It's no problem," he responds, "So, did you really snort milk out of your nose?"
I blush.
"In my defence, I was like 7," I say while laughing.
"You look really cute when you smile," Daniel says as he grabs my hand.
"Thanks," I smile at him.
We hold hands as we walk to Daniel's mom's car. He opens the door for me and then walks over to the other side of the car. When I get in I say, "Hi Mrs.King!"
"Hi, you must be Callie? I heard so much about you?"
I smile and look over to see Daniel blushing. We have a nice conversation with Mrs. King while she brings us somewhere. I still don't know where we are going because Daniel wanted it to be a surprise. Mrs King stops the car in front of a park.
