THE GIRL

CHAPTER 23

My eyes start to drift open as I start to see light. A huge rush a pain travels into my head.

"What happened?" I ask in pain.

Connor and my dad are in the room rushing over to me, that is when I realize I'm in the hospital. And then it hits me, Connor being pushed, me confronting Liam, and then Liam knocking me out.

"Liam punched you in the face hard, you're fine now, you're vital just need to be up," Connor says.

I notice he has a black eye.

"Did you beat him up?" I ask.

"Yeah, duh."

"Idiot," I say.

"I was trying to protect you."

"Connor I was already unconscious there was nothing you could have done, if anything you could have gotten seriously hurt."

"Callie, I didn't know how bad you were hurt. All I knew was that he hurt you, and if any guy hurts you I will beat them up, no matter what."

Now I feel bad for attacking him. He was just protecting me.

"Sorry," I say.

"It's okay, I'm just glad you're okay."

I complain my dad about my head hurting and they get a nurse in. She gives me some Advil and explains to me how I need to stay in the hospital for a while. Apparently my vitals weren't stable, so they hooked me onto some IV's to help. I didn't even realize I had needles stuck into my hand until she mentions it. I look down and immediately feel nauseous. Connor covering up my hands with the blanket, explains to the nurse about how I hate needles and how they were lucky I was unconscious when they put it in.

I spend some time talking to my dad and Connor. Mom couldn't make it out this time, but it's fine. I call her and tell her i'm okay.

About 30 minutes go by and I ask, "Where's Daniel?"

"Oh, he's outside waiting. I forgot sorry," Connor says.

He walks out the door, I'm assuming to get Daniel. I quickly grab out my phone and look in the camera to see how I look, and man I look horrible. I quickly fix my hair and try to make myself look presentable.

"Hey," Connor says holding some roses.

"You didn't have to get me flowers."

"I wanted to," Daniel says smiling.

"Were gonna head out," Connor says leaving, my dad following right behind.

Daniel sets down the flowers and comes to sit on the hospital bed.

"How are you?" He asks so sweetly.

"My head really hurts, and I look like a mess," I respond.

Daniel kisses me on my forehead and says, "You look beautiful."

I smile and tell him, "You're such a liar."

"I'm not lying when I say I love you Callie Wilson."

I am hearing correctly? Did Daniel just say he loves me? No he didn't. Did he?

"I'm sorry I don't think I heard right."

"I said I love you Callie."

My heart is beating out of my chest right now.

"You love me?" I say smiling so hard.

"Yes," he responds.

"I love you too Daniel King."

We are now both smiling really hard. He leans in and kisses me. While kissing I wrap my hands (that still have needles stuck in them) around Daniel's neck, and he leans in closer to wrap his arms around my waist. We kiss for like 2 minutes until a nurse comes in. She seems really awkward because she says they got an alert my heart beat was increasing, and that I should "lower it down." She was basically telling us we should stop kissing.

An hour or so later Emma and Matt come in.

"I'm so sorry about our fight yesterday. I overreacted and I shouldn't have. I'm so sorry," Emma says right when she walks in.

"No, it was my fault, I shouldn't have called you innocent,"

"Ok so it's settled, can we go back to being friends again?"

"I'd love to!"

"Hold up, what was this fight about?" Matt asks.

"Yeah, i'm really confused," Daniel chimes in.

I see Emma get red because the fight was about the guy she liked.

"Oh nothing," I say.

The boys give me the "Yeah sure" look, which basically meant they didn't believe me. We spend some time as a group chatting like we would in the lunch room.

An hour later they all have to leave so I decide to call Erica and tell her about what happened. Turns out Connor already told her. She was so relieved to hear my voice, we ended up chatting a bit and it seems like she found a good friend group.

I end up staying at the hospital overnight just so the doctors can make sure i'm 100% okay. The next morning comes and I'm waiting for a doctor to examine me and sign the forms to say i'm good to go. My dad went home to shower, and Connor went to the bathroom. I'm scrolling through Insta while
waiting for the doctor to come when I hear someone coming through the door. I look up and see Liam.
