Peter was... SO confused.
He had been working at Stark Industries for two weeks now, after getting an internship when accidently taking a Stark Industries quiz for college students.
That alone was strange. And so awesome at the same time.
Yet here he is, walking down the halls, when one of the interns ran up to him, pushed something into his hand, and ran.
Like, what the fuck?
He looked down at the object that had been thrust into his hand.
He was holding a gun..."WHY THE FUCK AM I HOLDING A BLUE NERF GUN?!?!"
He looked down the hall but couldn't see anyone around. He needed to find answers cause he had NO idea what was going on. (Our confused smol bean :) )
................................
He had just finished reading the rules left on his station in the intern labs.
Apparently, this was a thing they would do occasionally where they would be split in half and put on two teams. The Red Team and the Blue Team.
There was a screen in the lab to show how many people on each team were left. Originally, there was about 500 workers on each team. Now, there was about 300 and the numbers were dwindling fast.
There were six avengers on each team as well.
In the Blue Team were Steve Rodgers, Bucky Barnes, Natasha Romanoff, Bruce Banner, Wanda Maximoff and Clint Barton.
On the Red Team was Tony Stark, Sam Wilson, Pietro Maximoff, James Rhodes, Thor Odinson and Vision.
So, if you got hit, you had to go to one of the two rooms that could hold up to 750 in them on floor 23. (Is it true? No clue. All I know is that for now, it'll do.)
He decided to wait it out in the lab until there was only about 150 people left on each team.
................................
When he ventured out, it was eerily quiet. Luckily, because of his enhanced hearing, he could hear the closest person.
They were two floors above him in the 100 floor building. Great, now he could think of what the fuck he was doing.
'Why on Earth are we doing this? I mean, 1000 people having a NERF gun War? Fun? Yes. Safe? No. But playing with the AVENGERS? He'll yeah!!!
He suddenly felt his Spider Sense and quickly turned and shot.
"DANG IT! I thought I was being quiet. For fucks sake."
It was one of the interns, Evie. He talked with her and her friends often.
She was really stubborn and loved to prove her point. She was really smart in business and management. She was originally from Britain, so quite a few people made fun of her accent.
"Sorry Evie. Didn't know it was you."
"Such betrayel," she said with a roll of her eyes."anyway, got to go, see you down there, Parker."
With that, she turned and left while giving him the middle finger. Reminded him a lot of MJ sometimes.
Yup, that was Evie for you.
He looked around and found one of the screens that had been in the lab. (Not a thing? Don't give a fuck.)
There. Was literally. 100 people left. It had only been an hour. The Avengers must be working over time.
Make that 98.
Bruce and Wanda were out from the Blue Team and only 34 workers were left on Red Team.
................................
Peter had taken out around 20 people from the opposite team and when he checked the screen in another room, there were no other workers on the other side. Now only the AVENGERS to be taken out on both sides, besides him.
*dinging noise* *appearance of lightbulb*
Suddenly, Peter had an idea and looked up at the ceiling.
He took the grating off the vent and quickly climbed inside, replacing the cover.
It was big enough to stand up. His best guess was to make it easy to get around in case of emergencies.
They were dark and empty but he made no sound, his steps silent as he made his way through the tower.
He had been quietly moving through the tower, letting his Spidey Sense guide him.
(Evie: How the FUCK does that even make sense?!
Me: EVIE! STOP BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL! WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE!
Evie: Fuck off, author.
Me: Love you too, bitch.)
As he made his way around, he heard voices below him.
Looking through the grating, he saw Thor and Vision as they walked through a corridor.
Smiling to himself, cause, hello, Avengers anybody? He aimed his shot for the android first as he was distracted.
Quickly firing the two bullets, he backed away from the opening as not to be seen after seeing the shots hit their target.
He had also seen the startled look on Thor's face. He'll remember that for awhile.
He quickly made his way further into the vents, his enhanced eyesight aiding in him being able to see in the nearly black vents. He would turn left, right, go up, go down. He easily would get lost.
'Okay. If you're gonna win this weird game of Last Man Standing, you need to placate the other team members. But how do I do that of-' his train of thought was cut short. He heard tapping below.
He looked through to see Sam and Rhodey, looking like they were waiting for someone. His questions were confirmed when they started talking.
"When's Stark gonna get here? We need to regroup now that Thor and Vision are out."
"Relax. Pietro got Cap and Bucky out so only Natasha and Clint are left on the other team."
"Yeah, reassuring that the two super spies are left. Fantastic."
That was when he decided to take his shots. He shot at a stack of paper first, causing the two to turn towards it.
This gave Peter the perfect shot to the back of the head and quickly ran off.
"CLINT!!!" He heard them call out. Well, now he knew why the vents were so big. Explained, what he called, The Nest.
................................
After checking a screen, he found out the Red Team had only Tony and Pietro left. The Blue Team had Clint, Natasha and him left.
He used his sticking abilities to climb one of the longer vents instead of taking multiple, and made his way to one of the higher levels.
Turns out, you got access to nearly all the floors during this.
He guessed he was somewhere near level 70 and made his way through the metal maze.
He eventually saw a flash of white and saw Pietro Maximoff. He knew of his enhanced speed and used his senses to help with this shot.
He shot at the speedster, then shot at the space infont of him.
His first shot missed, of coarse, as there was a blur right after his shot nearly hit its target, but the young adult ran straight into the second one.
"What?! HOW?!?!" His Sokovian accent prominent in his voice. No one should ever be able to catch him off guard like that. He was the fastest man alive. He looked up at the vent, trying to find the source.
But, of coarse, no one was there.
................................
Finally, Peter found Tony Stark. First, he had a major freak out moment.
Reason? You already know.
*6 hours later*
After he had finally stopped fanboying, he took aim and shot, just as the man turned around at the click of a gun.
Of coarse, Peter met his target. Thank you spider bite.
"Everyone, make your way to floor 23. Blue Team wins!" F.R.I.D.A.Y's cheerful voice exclaimed throughout the tower.
Peter made his way down to the floor, making sure not to fall down any vents. He was originally going to exit but instead, sat in the vents, waiting for the Avengers to arrive to see what would happen.
Soon enough, Tony and Natasha made their way in.
"So, Natasha, which of us did you get?" Pietro asked, sitting beside his sister.
"Actually, I got none of you. Clint must have gotten you all."
"Great, I got beat by an old man."
"It does make sense. As far as we could all tell, the shots came from the vent." Vision stated in his usual monotone voice.
At that moment, Clint walked in with a smile. All the interns from the Blue Team in the room cheered, while many from the Red Team politely clapped but grumbled as well.
"Hey Nat! Nice job getting everyone! Gotta say, surprised you got Pietro out."
Everyone looked at him confused, until Natasha eventually spoke.
"Uh, Clint? I didn't get any of them. I thought you did?"
"No, I hadn't even found any of the others."
"So if it wasn't you two, then who was it?" Steve asked.
Peter sat in the vent, silently laughing at the confused faces of Earths Mightiest Heroes.
"If I may, boss, I believe I know who has been taking out your team." F.R.I.D.A.Y said, amusement evident in her voice.
"Who, Fri?" TONY asked his A.I., curious.
'This is the moment to make an entrance' Peter thought to himself. He really wanted to see their reactions.
God he so wished Ned was here. He would be freaking out.
He quietly took off the vent cover. He saw Evie talking to her friends Jane, Susanna and Aria.
Evie looked at him and smirked. Jane followed her gaze and also smiled.
"Sorry, it was me!" Peter said, his head popping out of the vent, a sheepish smile on his face.
A few people screamed while Evie, Jane, Susanna and Aria were laughing in the corner, as well as other interns. There was a large group of girls and guys that knew each other quite well.
"You... you... HOW?" Sam stated the question on everyone's mind.
"I just used the vents so no one knew I was there." Peter said, extremely proud of himself for not stuttering.
"How did you find everyone." Bucky asked, slightly suspicious.
"I just made my way around." Peter said with a smile on his face.
"So, what's your name, kid?" The Tony Stark asked him.
"Peter. Parker. Peter Parker, sir."So that was long. My extra characters will be used again so I might post a chapter on some extra explanations.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this one-shot about Rule #19.
Bonus:Nathan had just started interning at Stark Industries after a year in MIT.
He had been there for a week when he had been taking some sheets to the labs.
Suddenly, a teenage boy with a mop of curly brown hair came hurtling at him.
He thrust something into his hands and then ran off.
"Good luuuuck!!!" Was thrown over the boys shoulder.
Nathan looked at what had been pushed into his hand, and saw a red NERF gun.
What the fuck?Until the next update.
Later xxx
