Chapter 30

Nellie was leaning her arms on the tiny bridge between the tiny lake. It was a cold windy afternoon. She was trying to think what she was gonna do on a Friday afternoon.

She noticed the handles on the bridge were really cold that her fingers started to freeze. She stretched them and handed them again.

Maybe winter was coming. The wind was already cold from a week ago and tiny particles of ice started to grow on the ground.

She couldn't believe that her mind was always carried away by other things and not about nature.

Winter was always her favorite season of the year and she actually forgot it. It's was always the time of the year that she waited for most.

Suddenly, she heard a rustling noise from the bushes. She turned her head with a gasp and was relieved when it was just Sweeney.

The lake was really just between the woods so people can cross using the bridge. Nellie sighed softly and turned her head in front again.

Sweeney walked towards her and stopped when beside her. He, too leaned his arms on the handles, copying her position.

" Is winter coming? " she looked up his eyes. He looked down to hers and smiled. " Well, it's already in the middle of October then maybe it is. " he said in a sarcastic tone.

She nodded in approval and turned her direction in the lake again. Sweeney couldn't take his eyes off her. She looked so beautiful in the cold.

Her hair was in a bun but a few strands of hair fell in. Her dress was colored peach. Her skin was pale, her hair was brown and her make-up was light making it perfect in her beautiful beautiful face.

Sweeney couldn't help but stare at her and give her a half smile. She still wasn't looking. " I was wondering, pet. " he started and leaned his back on the bridge and used his arms to balance him.

Nellie moved a bit and looked at him. " While I was gone , was it hard? " he looked up her. She turned her gaze down and blinked a few times trying to avoid the coming tears and sighed then looked at the lake again.

" Eleanor? " he woke her up in her trance. She licked her dry l lips. " Oh it was hard, alright. But I managed it. " she said while she started walking away and to the woods.

Sweeney followed. " Nellie, have you ever thought about going home? " he asked another question. She stopped in her tracks for a moment and walked again.

" The house you bought? " she asked. " Yeah. " he replied.

" I don't know. It's been a long time since WE lived there. " she stopped and looked at him. They were in the middle of the healthy green forest.

They both looked at each other.

" Well, there's no point dwelling in the past, pet. " he grinned at her. She blinked her eyes. He actually repeated the words she once said

" Well, I'll think about it. " she said before they both heard plates falling from inside the house. The house was never far from the middle of the forest.

She sighed. " Well, I have to go. I need to help Anna with the plates. " waiting for no answer, she went off before Sweeney nodded and looked at her while she was walking away.

Nellie was blindfolded by Sweeney. He was guiding her in her footsteps. They were walking in the forest. He was going to surprise her.

" Sweeney, where the hell are we going? Are you kidnapping me? " she joked in a grin. Sweeney giggled and moved her hair then kissed her neck.

" We're almost there, my love. " he said and continued walking with her to the surprise. When they were already there, Sweeney took off her blindfold and said " Surprise! "
