Chapter 39

" You alright? " Zachary woke me up from my trance. I looked at him blinking asking him what he was saying. Then, he continued his business talk. But only one thing was in my mind. It was Nellie.

Oh, it's such a beautiful day! No grief, no paperworks, just me, Zach, the wedding gown and my folks waiting inside. I'm very nervous. The aisle is just right in front of me, only two closed doors are between. I'm so glad they got me these doors so to not keep me nervous.

The maid of honor and the bride's maids are all still in the dressing room. Such young beautiful women so eager for everything. I pray to get they won't experience what I went through.

The veil is still hanging behind me. The wedding gown is just too perfect to be true. Zach's tailor has such great taste. The maids also had done a marvelous work with the make-up and my hair. My hair falls behind me. It is curled and designed beautifully.  

It has some flower designs and they also added tiny little particles of glitter on my gown. It's quite fitting. Not to mention the corset. Making my perfectly curved form so clear. The shoes are a bit high but certainly comfortable. It's really magical.

I sigh as I try to keep my breathing from the tightness. I tighten my grip on the bouquet of flowers. God help me. I was so nervous.

" Well, that's a hell of a sack, Mrs. Lovett "

I turn around seeing, of course, Sweeney Todd. He pasted a smirk on his face. How did he even know where I was and that today was my wedding day. Not to mention, the time. Plus+ how did he get here in the  so-called ' get rid of nervousness ' room?

I softly chuckle. " I'm not surprised. " He is wearing this tux which he looked very fine in. Is he really gonna attend the whole ceremony?

" You shouldn't be. " he smirked crossing his arms and walking towards me. Damn it. Why am I talking to my EX-husband before I get to walk on the aisle for my NEW husband? This is just ridiculous. But to be honest, a little part of me also wanted to see him before I get to be called MRS. DUPRE'.

" Right. How did you get in here? " I ask him as I wrinkle my eyebrows. He laughed. Oh. He's enjoying my PUZZLED EXPRESSION. Then, he took his wallet out from his pocket opening it then showing it to me. His ID? " Inspector, remember? " he smirked yet again. I roll my eyes placing my hands on my hips. " I'll keep that in mind. " I make a face. He chuckled. " You have to get used to me, Ella. " Ella?! Ella what?! Did he literally just called me my COVER nickname?

I raise an eyebrow at him smirking at him this time. He looked at my from my face to my feet. What is he doing? I follow his gaze. " What? " does he hate my wedding dress or something? " I can still remember the last time I saw you wear a wedding gown. " he softly smiled. I just freeze there for a moment. For a moment there, I swear, I could feel tears rolling in. " Sweeney- "

" You're still as beautiful as ever since OUR wedding day. "

I look into his eyes softly. I could see sadness, grief and LOVE. His eyes are getting wet. Oh no. Don't do that, please. Not here. Not now. Not on my wedding day.

I just stay silent swallowing my tears. I feel my heart ache there for a bit. I pity him. I pity myself. I pity US.

" I was standing on the altar background then. We were thick as thieves. Were. Have been. Before. " he looked at me with eyes almost with sadness.

I look down. I couldn't bare to see him like this. To see me like this or even think about us before.

He cleared his throat softly wiping his face. I knew he was crying. " But everything changed now, huh? This is what you wanted right? To get your happy ending? " My happy ending? I don't have a happy ending. I know that. I know I will never have one no matter how I tried. I softly clear my throat. God. It hurts there. I look at him. I am very much aware my eyes are all red and wet now. " There are no such things as happy endings, Todd. They are only in fairytales. We are living in the real world. Happy endings don't exist because we never know what happens next in every story. "
