A sound of banging on my bedroom door made me jump with surprise in my sleep. I grunted softly and covered my ears with my pillow.

I heard an empty bottle of alcohol drop on the floor joining two more on the ground.

" Mr. Todd? Mr. Todd! Wake up sir! You have an appointment! " I heard a boy's voice call. It was probably just my assistant, Jamie.

I sighed softly and tilt my head up but my eyes were still closing since I was still half asleep.

I don't even wanna get up. I was so hungover after last night. I was drowning myself in alcohol. I probably drank up 5 bottles or more.

" It's open! " I yelled for my assistant to hear. I drop my head back in the soft cotton burying my face in it.

I heard the door open along with some footsteps. " Oh sir. Good Morning. You have a lot to do in your schedule for today. "

I looked at him but my eyes were barely open. " We'll do it tomorrow. " I said before I dropped my face on the bed covering my head with a pillow.

" Bu-But sir, your schedule has been arranged all for today. We cannot cancel it. I already sent them. " he said while I dropped my body on the ground and reached my study table sitting on the chair in front of it and looking in all my paperworks.

" Sir. " he called me trying to get my attention. I glanced at him. In his hands, he was holding a thick notebook filled with worn out papers, whatever those were.

He was wearing a dark green coat, almost black, with a white shirt under and some dark pants which were almost loose. He looked like he just ran from his house to mine. Not to mention, his dark short brown hair was mostly messy. It was almost like he didn't shower for the day.

Jamie Borden. He was always this smiling, kind, good-looking, young man. I always adored his sense of humor. He was almost like a son to me. Well, almost.

He was even too young for this job. Being under 25, it would always be hard to be an assistant of an inspector. But in truth, he was really good at it.

" Read them for me, boy. " I said coldly looking into my papers. " Oh uh...um " he stuttered looking into the pages of his notebook. I gave him a look to proceed.

" You have a meeting this 3 o'clock, an appointment with Monsieur Dela Vorte and a new case to open. " he finished.

I stared at my papers when I listened to my schedule then nodded as he finished. " Mm. Good. Thank you, son. You may go. "

He grinned. " Thank you, sir. And your welcome. " he bowed slightly and went on the doorway almost quickly. " And a pleasant morning, sir. " he said before he closed my door.

I shot a smile and stood up looking out the window placing both my hands in my pockets.

I can't believe it had been almost 3 years since my first day of work. I got a proper job for myself. An inspector; that's what I am. I solved 19 cases. All were easy since I was a criminal back years ago. So you could say I am an expert.

No one ever knew about my past or who I was and they never will. I was in prison for 6 months. They took me to America for a little while then back to London; my real home where they set me out. I spent myself alone in a rented house after then I got a job for myself.

Almost every night, I drink myself to sleep; to drown my sorrows. All that happened. It was all such a disaster.

The past still crawls in my mind like a spider but I still put them away by drinking alcohol.
