Chapter 4

"What? Mira, have you lost it?"

"I can assure you, I am perfectly sane."

"Then why was your case closed?"

"I escaped while I was pregnant with Lucas."

I looked over at Lucas, smiling. He was turning out to be an amazing kid, unlike I'd expected. 

"So, then, why were you announced as being dead? And why the name change?" Colby looked extremely confused at this point, and I don't blame him. 

"My ex is a dangerous man. When I escaped, I'd manage to get one of his enemies to help me. We worked together to fake my death. If it were to be announced that I was found alive, my ex would've tried to find me. I also knew if he found out my information was being used, he'd know I was still alive. My hair's natural color is actually black but I cut and dyed it after escaping, another precaution to make sure he didn't find me," I explained how I'd escaped to Colby. Now that I'm saying it out loud it isn't as complicated as I thought it would be. 

"How did you and Kat meet?" 

"Well, the guy that helped me escape knew someone who knew Kat's family. After my family knew I was still alive, I went to live with Kat and her family in case my ex tried to come looking for me."

Colby and I sat in silence. The only noise heard was the sound of the tv, but that was background noise. I can't believe I just explained that to him. I hoped he wasn't someone from his gang.  I can't let Lucas live that life. I won't lose my son to that life. 

It wasn't until two hours later when Lucas was put down for a nap, that Colby and I started talking again. 

"Mira, can I ask you another question?" Colby asked.

"Is it about my past?"

"No, actually."

"Shoot."

"I was actually wondering if you'd go on a date with me."

I looked at Colby in shock, "Sure, I'd just have to get someone to watch Lucas while I'm gone."

"I think Kat would do it."

"She would, we'd just have to set up a date that would work for all three of us."

Colby nodded and we went back to watching tv. I, once again, had Spongebob on. To which Colby continued to tease me about. 

"Don't laugh at me! Just because I'm an adult doesn't mean I can't laugh at Spongebob," I attempted to sound serious but ended up laughing at the end. 

Colby laughed, "I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you."

I hummed in response and soon enough I found myself getting sleepy.

A/N

This is definitely just a filler chapter. I didn't actually realize how short this was and the small amount of significance this has to the story until I transferred it from paper onto Wattpad and looked at the word count.
