CHAPTER FIVE: COMMANDER DAMERON
After their somewhat morbid conversation, things returned to more light-hearted topics. ELL-1 had pushed whatever it was that had stirred within her to the back of her mind, as she always did. She was still on a mission after all, and missions did not require any emotions, only actions and their execution.
Just as the sisters finished their meal, she noticed the mess hall become audibly quieter. Not as quiet as First Order cafeterias, but conversations had grown softer and most voices turned into murmurs. There was still the occasional laughter, but not to the extent as it had been before. Paige and Rose's gazes were now on the entrance to the mess hall just as many of their other co-workers'. ELL-1 turned around to see what all the fuss was about and was greeted with the sight of two women and one man dressed in orange Resistance flight suits. They were bunched around their waists, indicating they had just gotten back from flying, and they wore white shirts and tank tops instead.
"Black Squadron," Rose sighed wistfully as another awed smile grew on her features.
Sensing ELL-1's confusion, she quickly reached across the table to point out the different pilots.
"That's Captain Karé Kun," She pointed at the dark-skinned woman with short, spiky blonde hair, "and that's Captain Temmin Wexley."
Her finger landed on the portly man next to her, who was currently whispering something into Karé's ear and she laughed heartily. His pale complexion was interrupted only by the rosiness of his cheeks, and his short dark hair matched his scruffy beard.
"And that's-"
"Jessika Pava," Paige finished, standing up to greet the dark-haired woman, "Thought you'd never get back Testor."
Jessika rolled her chocolate eyes, breaking off from Kun and Wexley to come stand in front of Paige.
"Please," She smirked, "I ran those flight drills in record time, P. Faster than Dameron even."
Paige laughed as the two slapped their hands together, gripping their palms tightly and pulling one another into a one-armed hug.
"Speaking of the Commander, where is he?" She asked, as they stepped back from their embrace.
"Debriefing with the General, I assume," A shadow crossed Jessika's face, "He's still taking L'ulo's death hard. We all are."
L'ulo L'ampar. The fifth pilot of Black Squadron. Killed in action at the same time Oddy Muva betrayed the Resistance and the First Order. Those were the facts that the First Order had given ELL-1 on the late Duros pilot. If she recalled in her debriefing report, he was killed only a couple of days ago.
