I shifted from foot to foot as I waited for Agent Walter to ask me what he wants to know.
He sat down on his chair and looked up at me. "I see no point going to the interrogatory room since we're just us." He said mentioning himself, me, Kyle, Sheriff Brooks and my dad, who is few feet away, at his desk. He looked up at me as Agent Walter talked. He shot me a look that he always does when I'm scared or nervous: It's going to be okay. "However, the first thing I'd like to know is about that young man, Francis." Agent Walter opened the letter and read what it said: "' You want answers, I have them. All of them. Even what happened to your friend, Francis. Yes, I do know what happened that night.''' He then closed it and looked up at me. "Would you like to explain yourself?"
No? I wish I could say no, but I don't have any choice but to tell him a lie or the truth.
I glanced at my dad then at the Sheriff then looked back at Agent Walter.
"She doesn't have to answer." My dad cut in. "She has the right to have a lawyer."
"Dad." I began but Agent Walter cut me off, "Unless you want her to be number one suspect once again, I suggest not to."
"I was there that night," I whispered. Okay, Vanessa, you cannot say any details. Remember the movies you watch and when someone witnesses a murder, someone will tell them to be vague with the descriptions. I can't tell them about what happened. They won't believe me and I will end up like Max, in a mental institute. I mean, if I had proof like a video, sure, I would tell them, but I don't. "It happened so fast." I tried to be still and make eye contact with Agent Walter, but it was hard to do so. "He was with us and the second after, he was gone and screaming so loud. I-I don't know how he was far from us in a matter of seconds—"
Agent Walter cut me off, "You weren't alone with Francis that night?" He asked.
Oh shit.
I glanced at Sheriff Brooks then back at Agent Walter. I can't tell them I was with them, but I have no choice. I can't tell them about Mike being there because he got bitten by that beast.
"With Chloe and Gabe." I mumbled and Sheriff Brooks tensed beside me.
"These two will get in so much trouble." He mumbled to himself. I gulped. He looked at me and shook his head, "It's okay, Van."
"You may continue." Agent Walter said as he made a movement with his left hand.
"Francis had gotten far from us in a matter of seconds and we didn't understand why. Probably because we hadn't realized he was gone, I don't know. By the time, we reached him, he was dead and no one was around apart of us." I explained.
"Why haven't you told the police about that?" He questioned.
I shrugged, "We were so scared. We were scared that we would get into trouble because we went into the woods in the middle of the night when we were told that we were not supposed to go. And it was also after the curfew. Plus I was scared that you would have arrested me because I was the number one suspect."
"You might not be the suspect number one. However, you are still on my list of suspects." Agent Walter explained. "Why were you in the woods in the middle of the night?"
Oh shit. Him and his questions.
Think fast, Van.
"We were going to Chloe and Gabe's cottage," I explained. Oh shit, that's good, but right after this, I'll have to text Chloe and Gabe because I know that their dad will ask them some questions and probably Agent Walter, too.
