Ricky was eager to get to the meeting about the music video for the new single from the Kaiser Chiefs. They'd had a few brief discussions with the director previously but today was finalising it. The band would be back in the spotlight and back on form.
He greeted the other guys and sat down at the conference table. It seemed a bit big and grand for them but things could get busy.
He felt his phone buzz in his pocket and pulled it out to find a text from Juliette.
"Found: one clown sock rescued from beneath a bed. Seeking it's partner to resume their foot fetish together. Shall be hiding in a dark handbag until safely reunited with owner."
He laughed out loud at the message which made the others look over.
"Alright there?" Simon asked to his right.
"Juliette, you know the one from the party, just found my missing sock under her bed." Ricky told him.
Simon raised an eye brow at his friend. "You dirty stop out!" he laughed.
"Not like that, Si!" Ricky justified. "It wasn't anything dirty. I just went over to hers for a bit of a snog after the show and ended up staying over. We kept our clothes on, well sort of, but I couldn't find one of my socks this morning when I was getting dressed."
"I hope you didn't sneak out carrying your shoes." Simon replied.
"No, I'm too old for that these days!" Ricky laughed. "I'd rather settle down with a nice lady."
"With a certain young lady who you spent the night with?" Simon asked.
Ricky sighed in reply and rubbed his forehead.
"Oh!" Simon smiled and patted his friend on the back. "You're in deep already!"
Ricky nodded. "I was in deep from the start. I know it's cheesy but I don't want to rush in and mess up someone so good. She's not like the others and I've never felt like this about anyone. I'm a bit scared."
"Just give her a good shag and you'll work it out." Simon teased.
"That's the thing." Ricky looked over at Simon with a worried look. "Promise you won't tell anyone?"
"Promise."
"She's never done that and I don't know if I'm good enough to... You know. I don't want to disappoint her. She's been waiting for the right man but what if I'm not that man?" Ricky sighed.
"If you're worrying about hurting her it means you're the right man. Your thinking with your head as well as your heart." Simon told him.
"When did you get so profound Curly?" Ricky laughed.
Their meeting started not long after, bringing their conversation to an end. It wasn't until they were eating lunch that they got to talk again a out things other than business. The five of them were sat around a table in a cafe when they started talking about what to do for Ricky's birthday in a few weeks time.
"I don't want anything big. Just a meal at a nice restaurant or something." He shrugged. "Mum and dad are coming down for the weekend after so it might be easier to do it during the week. Can I bring Juliette?"
The guys agreed in a chorus of "Of course!".
"He's got it bad for her." Simon told the others which earned him a kick under the table.
"I just wanted to check. You guys are like family so I want to make sure she has your approval. I know it's still early days but I think it's going to get serious. I really like her." he told them.
"We're all happy for you mate," Whitey told him. "She's really nice but be careful. She's a lot younger than you. She'll probably expect different things."
"That's what I'm scared of. Not the age gap, it's only nine years, but that she wants something shorter term than I do." Ricky sighed.
