Over the next week both sets of our parents took it in turns to visit in the afternoon. Ricky went back to his parents house a few times to have a proper sleep and shower. After a few days the midwives were almost literally pushing him out the door.

I had my birthday in the hospital much to my annoyance. Ricky and our parents did the best they could. We got take away pizzas and shop brought cupcakes with a candle stuck in one while our families gathered around. A few of my family came down from Newcastle which brightened my day, including my grandma who already adored her great grandchildren.

The day before our last day in the hospital was our first visitor who wasn't family. Whitey.

"Hello Wilsons!" he beamed.

"Hi!" I greeted him. "Sorry I called you douche face last time I saw you."

"It's ok, you had two babies trying to get out. You're allowed to call me things!" he laughed. "Is that them?"

He gestured over at the two little hospital cots by the window.

"Yeah, come and meet my kids." Ricky lead his friend over to them. "This handsome dude's Hector and this gorgeous girl is Georgianna. Kids, this is your Uncle Whitey."

"Hi guys!" Whitey waved at them.

I giggled at the way the two men talking to newborns like they understood it. I went over to join them.

"I'm not just saying it but they're pretty cute." Whitey smiled. "Look at those cheeks."

"No wonder I was so big. He's a fatty like I was!" I laughed. "My back feels amazing now they're out."

"I can imagine!" he laughed.

"Do you want to hold them?" I asked him.

"Not both at the same time." Ricky added. "Take it in turns."

"Oh yes please!" Whitey grinned.

I watched the two men with Georgianna while I picked up Hector and hugged him onto my chest. They talked about 'dad stuff' while Whitey cradled Georgianna and looked at her.

"No man is ever going to be good enough for her in your eyes." he told Ricky.

"Oh god, I hadn't even thought about that kind of thing yet!" Ricky groaned. "My life's changed so much in just a few days. Now I understand why my parents are so fussy."

"Look on the bright side, you've got one of each." Whitey shrugged. "As soon as Anna was born everything was pink and fluffy. At least you'll have someone to play football with. He'd better be a Leeds fan though."

I left them to talk manly dad stuff and took Hector for a walk around the corridors. A few midwives stopped to coo over him and ask how I was feeling. I was still a bit sore around the operation site but it was getting better each day. I was dying for a long soak in a hot bath but I would have to wait a few more days until it was healed more.

Hector was already starting to try to look at things. When someone was cooing over him he'd look vaguely from me to them then pull a face. When either of them were feeding I'd gaze adoringly into their eyes and watch as they seemed to be searching my face with their big eyes.

Back in our room I swapped babies so Whitey could hold Hector. The men continued to talk and laugh as I took Georgianna to my bed and changed her nappy. I gave her a wipe and then kissed her bare bottom. It was such a tiny little bum, even for a baby. She defiantly got that from her dad. She was also starting to get hair like his. She was very fair haired with a hint of ginger and the fine hairs were already starting to stand up on their own.
