Commercial Love Day

A few days later it was Commercial Love Day. I took Tibby over to spend the day with her now neutered boyfriend. The two of them curled up together on Ricky's sofa and washed each others faces.

"Aren't they cute?" Ricky asked and pushed a parcel into my hands. "I know we agreed not to but I'd already got you these."

I looked down at my hands to see an envelope and a small light blue box in my hands. Hold the phone! That was a Tiffany's and Co box!

"You went to Holly Golightly's favourite place!" I gasped.

"I know you love the film and I caught you drooling over one of their adverts." he told me as he kissed me in the cheek. "Today's just an excuse to give you something pretty."

I pulled off the ribbon and the lid. Inside a felt pouch in the box was a beautiful, stunning, pair of dangly earrings. I small but perfect diamond hung on a chain that dangled from a star shaped diamond.

"Oh Rick, they're beautiful! Thank you so much!" I gasped and covered his face in kisses.

"Open the envelope!" he told me in an excited voice.

I opened it and looked at the set of keys for a moment.

"For here." he told me. "Front and back door. The clicky thing's for the garage."

"Oh my god!" I squealed and dived into his arms. "Thank you thank you thank you!"

He laughed at my excitement and hugged me. "Now you and Tibby can come and go as you please. I expect to find you ladies waiting here for me and Fatty when I get back tonight. We're such lucky men!"

"Oh, before you go I need to give you your present!" I told him as I ran over to my handbag. "It's not much but it's so you."

He tore the wrapping off and laughed. A box of six checked cotton handkerchiefs.

"Perfect!" he laughed. "You know I was just thinking about getting some the other day. I'll take one with me today. You never know who might cry. Even I might!"

"I'll wash and iron them for you if you want. That's how much I love you." I told him.

"For someone who hates valentine's day you're really soppy today." he laughed.

We'd agreed early on that we'd never do each other's washing and ironing unless it was an emergency. I was very pleased with this arrangement as I still found it creepy when I accidentally stepped on his dirty underpants left on the bedroom floor.

After Ricky left I pottered around the house doing stuff like making some food to take to work later. The cats seemed pretty happy together much to my relief. I'd been worried that Fatso might try to 'get fresh' with Tibby against her will or that she might attack him. On their first meeting there'd been a few snarls but nothing violent.

I headed into the theatre with an unusual blindness to the heart shaped rubbish around me. It's funny what a few keys can do. It wasn't that the rubbish loved up stuff didn't bother me anymore, I still couldn't stand it, I was just sat in my happy bubble.

My friend Sarah greeted me at her desk at the Stage Door.

"Did you get anything nice from your man today?" she asked.

I grinned. "He gave me some beautiful earrings that I'm going to wear to The Brits next week and these!" I took the keys out of my bag and jingled them.

"Keys?" she asked.

"Keys for his house!" I grinned. "You know what that means? Apart from wanting me to look after the cat."
