Hi peeps! I've just seen that this story has over 4000 views! Holy crap! Thanks for all the love and kind words. You guys reading this keep the story going. Seriously, if you weren't reading, voting and commenting so warmly I'd have stopped 50 odd chapters ago.
I'm going to slowly come to the end in a few chapters, I haven't planned how many but I have planned how. Things are just flowing really well.
Anyway, here's the next chapter! 😚
....
We were woken in the morning by a nurse who came marching into the room and flicked the lights on.
"Jeeze. My eyes!" Ricky groaned next to me as we both blinked like newborn kittens in the fluorescent strip lights.
"Time for a check!" the nurse said.
She shoo-ed Ricky out of the bed as if he was a dirty cat. I'd insisted if he was going to stay then he'd share the bed with me. The sofa was far too small for him. We were both skinny and the bed was wide so we could fit in together, albeit tightly.
I tried to go back to sleep but people kept coming in to check on me. I put Herbert, the teddy, over my face to try to block out reality.
"Go away!" I grumbled to the next person who opened the door.
"Nice to see you too!" My mum laughed.
"Mammy!" I squeaked with excitement.
She stood in front of me looking worried. She had an overnight bag in one hand and a box of biscuits in the other.
"I know you want chocolate but that's not very healthy. I brought you the next best thing with a little bit of chocolate." she said.
"Yummy!" Ricky grinned and opened the box.
"Oi! They're for the pregnant lady!" Mum laughed.
"Sorry but the food here is dreadful!" he said with a mouthful of biscuit. "When they bring food it's only for Juliette. What she doesn't eat I'll eat and then go to get something from the cafe."
"It's a hospital, not a hotel!" I laughed.
"I'm popping out for some real food. There's a McDonald's across the road." he nodded to the window from where he could see the street. "Want anything?"
Me and mum shook our heads. He gave us both a kiss on the cheek before leaving us to chat.
"How are you feeling my baby?" Mum asked.
"Better than yesterday but still feeling like hell. The babies are alright though!" I smiled.
"Babies? More than one?" she asked.
"I thought Rick had told you!" I gasped. "It's twins! That's why I'm showing already!"
"He said there was news but he didn't say what. Oh that's amazing!" she beamed.
I lifted up my tshirt and let her look and feel. There wasn't really much to see or feel yet but if there's any midwife who's allowed to randomly feel my stomach it's her. There was a monitor strapped around my small bump which she explained was to monitor the babies heart beats. She explained everything the doctors and midwives had said in normal human terms. I was so lucky to have her.
"You're not going to feel kicks for about another six weeks. It'll start as little movements that feel like fluttering or popcorn bursting. That's completely normal. As the babies grow and get stronger you'll feel firmer moments. Sometimes you can feel the baby turn over. When they're getting ready to come out they'll shuffle about so that they're head down and ready to pop out head first." she explained.
