I fell asleep stroking Tibby on the bed. When I woke up Ricky was lying on the bed next to her watching me sleep.
"Hi." he whispered.
"Hi." I smiled.
Despite the emotional roller coaster I'd been on I was so glad to see him. We sat up to hug and kiss, Tibby wasn't amused by the affection going on above her. He told me about the music festival in Germany as he unpacked his bag. I was starting to tell him about the party.
"Why do your dad's family have to get blind drunk to enjoy..." he said as he headed into the bathroom.
As he stopped mid sentence I remembered what I'd left by the sink. He returned to the bedroom with the test in his hand.
"What is this?" he asked plainly.
"It's a..." I swallowed the fear. He wasn't stupid, the question didn't really need to be asked. "A pregnancy test." I said in a small voice.
"No, it's a positive pregnancy test." he growled angrily.
Of all the reactions I'd gone through in my head anger had never come into it.
"I'm sorry." I replied.
"You're pregnant and this is how I find out?" he snapped. "A piece of plastic by the sink!"
"I was about to tell you." I said.
"Jesus! This isn't just a little thing Juliette! This is life changing!" he cursed and kicked the wardrobe door.
"Rick, I..." I started to say but was cut off.
"A baby already. We've only known each other for seven months!" he shouted.
"Shut up!" I snapped. "Don't you think I'm shocked too. I didn't plan this! I'm terrified! I thought you'd be happy. I thought you want this!"
"I don't!" he shouted back.
That was it. I wasn't going to stay with an angry man who'd said he wanted one thing but actually wanted another.
"I'm going. When you calm down maybe you'll decide if you want to be in our child's life. Until then you can keep this." I told him as I pulled the engagement ring off and put it on the dressing table with my make up. "Come on Tibby, we're going out."
Tibby followed me downstairs and let me put the leash and harness on her. She didn't want to follow me out the door though. I tugged on the leash a few times but she just looked at me knowingly.
"Juliette, don't go!" Ricky said as he stomped down the stairs.
"Why? Why should I stay when you're this angry?" I sighed.
"Don't drive while you're angry." he replied.
Was that really the best he could do? I rolled my eyes as I picked Tibby up and slung my handbag over one shoulder.
"Sit." I told Tibby as I put her in the passenger seat and my handbag in the footwell.
I started the car and was about to turn into the road. I looked in rear mirror to see Ricky standing at the door. I sighed as I pulled out. I didn't know where I was going. I drove around for a bit. I found myself at Jessie J's house. I had plenty of friends who lived nearer but something had brought me to Jessie.
I knocked on her front door and waited. She answered the door with her usual big smile.
"What's up babe?" she asked, seeing my face still puffy from crying.
"Me and Rick had a fall out. A really big one." I said.
She pulled me into a hug and guided me through to the sitting room where we sat on the sofa and talked. She took my hand as I started crying.
