Chapter 18: Proposal

Later that night Hermione was cooking dinner for her quests. A knock on the door was heard through the house. Fred stood up to answer it.

"Fp, Alice! Come in dinner's nearly ready." He said opening the door to their friends.

"Thank you Fred" Alice said handing him a bottle of white wine.

"Alice!" Hermione said giving her a hug.

"Hi, how are you feeling?" Alice asked.

"I'm fine, you want a bread roll?" Hermione replied.

"Yes please" Alice smiled at her friend going over to sit on the sofa beside Fp. Fred poured Alice, Fp and himself a glass of wine. He handed the glasses to the couple, sitting down on the seat in the corner. Hermione came over with a plate of bread rolls and put them down on the coffee table before sitting down herself.

"So how's things?" Fred asked.

"Well, nothing really. It's all been amazingly normal. Polly and the twins are coming tomorrow and we were talking to the girls about getting a dog" Alice laughed.

"That's fantastic, it's the same for us. Today we had a doctors appointment and he said the baby was totally healthy and we're finding out the gender after Christmas!" Hermione told her friends, holding Fred's hand.

"Aw are you going to find out or do you want it to be a surprise?" Alice asked.

"Well I want a surprise but Fred wants to find out" Hermione rolled her eyes.

"Fred, can I speak to you in the kitchen?" Fp said, putting down the glass of wine.

"Yeah sure, we will leave you two ladies to get on with it" Fred stood up and began walking to the kitchen. He was so glad Fp asked to talk to him because there was actually something he wanted to talk to Fp about. "What's up buddy?" Fred asked when they got into the kitchen. Fp closed the door behind them and took a small box out of his pocket. 

"I'm going to propose to Alice" he said opening the box to reveal a beautiful ring. It had a twist around the band with a large diamond in the centre and the words 'forever and always' carved into the inside.

"That's fantastic, I was actually thinking of proposing to Hermione" Fred replied bringing out his own ring. This one had a large diamond in the middle with two smaller ones at each side.

"When are you going to do it? I was thinking about tonight" Fp asked.

"I'm doing it tomorrow over dinner" Fred revealed.

"Fred, since you're in there can you check the ratatouille?" Hermione shouted in from the living room.

"Sure honey" Fred quickly shoved the ring back in his pocket before opening the oven and taking out Hermione's ratatouille. "Good luck, buddy" he said to Fp as he got out some plates and cutlery. Fred had taken dinner through to the dining room and Fp was getting ready to ask the big question. The four friends sat around the table reminiscing about high school memories, that was when Fp decided to make the biggest decision of his life.
