Accept
Narinig ko ang pag-iyak ni Mama pagdating ko sa bahay.
Nakita ko siya sa kusina na umiiyak.
"Ma, bakit po?" Tanong ko at dinaluhan siya.
This is not the first time I saw my Mama cried. Noong bata pa ako ay umiiyak siya. Sometimes, naiisip ko na baka dahil kay Papa kaya siya umiiyak. Yun yung dahilan kung bakit.
Maganda si Mama. Kahit sa edad niya ay talagang hindi halata ang katandahan niya. Mahilig raw sumali sa Mama ng beauty contest noon. I saw her pictures when she was still young. She said that suitors from different places would come to their house. Iba ang kagandahan mo Mama.
"Nasugat lang ako." Rason niya. She sniffed. "Kamusta ang pag-aaral?" She smiled. Tears still trickled down her face.
Her skin is fairer than before. Siguro ay dahil hindi na siya palaging naglalako ng mga kakanin dyan sa labas. The only thing that could tell she aged is her freckles and wrinkled skin.
I smiled. It has always been like this. Alam ko naman ang iniiyakan niya. Si Papa.
Hindi pa rin niya matanggap ang pagkawala ng aking ama. They were disowned by their parents. They fought for their love, in the end. He left this world too early. My Mama is doing everything to answer all my needs. And she never fail to amaze me.
Hindi ko na siya tinanong. She would always deny that. Masakit pa rin ang nangyari sa pag-iibigan nila. She said that everything was painful, but she have me.
"Kumain na tayo." Ngiti niya. I handed him a tissue. Niyakap niya ako.
I embraced my Mama. The one who have brought me here in this world. The one who taught me that even in the darkest days, a flicker of fire can be enough to keep you going. It is up to you on how you face and live with it.
I guess she can't still accept that Papa is no longer here.
"Can we go out?" Lucas draped his arms on the back of the bench.
Lumayo ako sa kanya. Nairita siya sa ginawa ko. Tumawa ako nang dumapo na ang kamay niya sa likod ko at hinila ako sa baywang.
"Sagutin mo naman yung tanong ko!" He demanded.
Inirapan ko siya. Demanding pa nitong lalaking ito. "Oo na. Isama natin sil-"
"Tayo lang." Inunahan niya ako. Tumawa ako. "Date." He shrugged.
