The next couple of days were spent sorting everything for Saturday night. The girls had enlisted the artistic talents of Tom to create a poster for what was being dubbed 'Burlesque Night at La Bonne Nuit.' There was a buzz around that, different people wondering if that meant Veronica had hired actual burlesque dancers to perform or what was going on. Once that had caused some commotion and people were talking about it, the girls were excited to actually put it all together and rehearse properly.
On Friday after school, the girls ditched their usual Pop's hangout to go to the mall.
"What do we wear for a burlesque night?" Toni asked.
"I don't know, kind of like 1920's flapper vibes?" Cheryl said.
"Leave it to me. We used to have burlesque nights at the strip club." Sophia said. "Come on."
She led the girls through some stores picking up everything they needed. Strapless, corseted tops, a tulled skirt, fishnet stockings, black heels, and long black gloves, a choker and some dangly earrings.
"Alright, this is going to look amazing!" Veronica said.
"Yeah, for sure. Good choices, Soph." Josie said.
"Jughead is either going to love or hate this outfit." Betty said.
On Saturday, they spent the whole day doing dress rehearsals. At around three o'clock, Kevin turned up, as he always liked to have a bit of rehearsal before the evening.
"Oh, hey girls. Wow, you all look amazing. What's going on?" He asked.
"I asked the girls to help me out with a performance tonight. Wanna see?" Josie asked.
"More than anything." Kevin sat at one of the tables.
The girls got into their first positions and Josie pressed play. They went through a full rehearsal, everything going perfectly.
"Well, what do you think?" Veronica asked.
"You girls are my idols!" Kevin stood up and punched the air. "Oh my God! That was - That was amazing! That's everything! You realise the guys will not be able to contain themselves, right?!"
"I think that's the plan." Sophia chuckled.
"Josie wants to impress Tom." Toni said.
"Tom, huh? Yeah, he's cute." Kevin said.
"Gross." Sophia muttered.
"Anyways, back to the performance. That was the best we've done it." Cheryl said.
"Yeah, it was." Toni hi-fived her.
"Seeing as we've got that down, I'm gonna go hang with Jug so he doesn't get suspicious." Betty said.
"Good idea." Veronica said. "I'm gonna go meet Archie."
"I'm going Thornhill too. Coming, girls?" Sophia asked Cheryl and Toni.
"Yeah." They nodded.
Everyone got out of their outfits, putting them in the dressing rooms ready for later, and they all changed into their regular clothes, picking up what they had brought with them. Betty, Sophia, Cheryl and Toni walked to Thornhill together, chatting as they made their way there. A few of the guys were around the fire which had been built near Toni, Jughead, Fangs and Sweet Pea's trailers.
"Hey, girls." Tom said.
"Hey." They all replied.
Everyone exchanged pleasantries, saying hello and sitting around the fire pit too.
"Where have you been?" Jughead asked.
"Just had to do something." Toni shrugged. "No biggie."
"There's no trouble, is there?" Fangs asked.
"No, of course not." Cheryl said.
"It's honestly just girl stuff." Betty said.
"Yeah. Just girl stuff." Sophia repeated with a final nod.
"Alright, alright. We'll stop asking." Sweet Pea said.
"But you're all acting shady as hell." Tom let them know, and they shrugged.
They all hung out for a while, talking about school and the evening's plans.
"What does burlesque night mean? Have you guys spoken to Veronica about it?" Fangs asked.
"Yeah, she's told us bits and pieces." Sophia said.
"It's more a burlesque theme. So, I assume Josie will be dressed up for the occasion." Toni said.
"What, dressed like in the movie Burlesque?" Tom asked.
Cheryl raised her eyebrows. "You've seen that movie?"
"I watched it with Soph," he shrugged.
"But yeah, like that." Betty said. "I'm sure you'll see a whole new side to her."
"So? I don't even care I was just- You know." Tom stumbled over his words.
"Get lost Tom, we all know you have a crush on Josie." Jughead said. "It's obvious."
"Yeah. But she seems to like you to." Sweet Pea said.
"Whatever." Tom said.
Later on, everyone had split off so they could get ready for the night ahead. The four girls were in Toni's trailer getting ready together. They were facetiming Josie and Veronica too so they could all do similar make-up, a dark smokey eye with a pop of gold glitter over the lid, bold brows, some gleaming highlight and false lashes. It was a look. They all just wore their usual going out clothes, except the Serpent girls managed to get Betty into a crop top and black leather skirt. Veronica had a navy dress on, Cheryl had a red skirt and black top, Toni wore black shorts with fishnet tights, and a red top, Sophia had on a strapless black bodycon dress, and Josie put on a black skirt with a white crop top to wear there, as she would be putting on the burlesque outfit for her first solo performance as well. Betty, Toni, Cheryl and Sophia left Toni's trailer and met the boys, all of them walking to Pop's.
