Amanda's POV
I hugged my dad and turned to walk out of his private jet.
"Be save Amy." He said as I walked down the steps. I smiled at the nickname he had given me when I was three. I couldn't pronounce Amanda, so I told everyone that my new name was Amy. They all just laughed and called me Amanda, all of them but my dad.
"I will dad, don't worry about me." I smiled at him then walked down the ramp without a backwards glance. I took a fortifying breath, then stepped into the car my dad had bought for me and drove out of the Tyler Pounds Regional Airport and begun the hour long drive to Jacksonville, Texas.

It only took me about ten minutes to find my Mom's house. I'd only been there once or twice in the past few years; ever since she broke it off with dad when I was 7 she'd been kind of distant. I would still see her every year at Christmas, and she would fly out for my birthday. But, by the time I was 15 the visits had changed from 6-9 times a year to 2-3, and now they were almost none-existent. The invitation has always been open for me to come stay with her, I had just been ignoring it. That is until I decided that living with my careless mom would be better then living with my love-struck father and his 23 year old wifey.
I sigh and step out of the car and start up the pathway of the two-story-white-house that belonged to my mom. The bushes in the front had grown free and the grass was untrimmed. It was the exact opposite of my dad's perfectly clean cut green lawn and trimmed hedges.
I parked the car in the shade of the trees that lined the road so it wouldn't burn up in the scorching heat. Then I grabbed my bags and made my way up to the door.
Just as I was about to knock, the door swung open revealing a head of wild brown hair and shining green eyes. "Amanda!" My mom said in her usual bright voice, "welcome home sweetly. Come in come in." She gestured me inside after giving me an awkward side hug.
"Do you want some lemonade, or some water, or do you drink coffee? I don't have any right now, but I could run to the store and get some."
"Mom, mom." I said to stop her prattling, "do you think you could show me where my room is so I could get settled first? I ate with Dad on his jet anyway." I mumbled the last part, hoping she wouldn't hear.
Of course she did, "That was almost an hour ago sweetheart, don't you want something to drink?"
I held up the water bottle is brought from the car, "I'm covered thanks."
"Alright," she said with forced cheer, "I set up your room for you, so I'll just leave you to get settled."
"Thanks... Mom" I said making my way through the semi-clean living room up the stairs past the balcony that overlooked the living room and down the hallway to my room. I walked in and was shocked to see the room I'd had since I was a child was no where to be found. The pink princess bedspread and pink walls I had hated for the past 7 years were gone and replaced with teal walls and a black and white bed. My whole room had been transformed, and I loved it.
I smiled and dropped my suitcases in the closet then grabbed a blanket from the bed and climbed out the window to a portion of the roof that hung over the back porch. I sighed as I looked into the mid-afternoon sky. The happiness I'd had when I discovered the changes to my room was gone and now I felt lonely.
I had left all my friends back with my dad in New York. I missed after school trips to Starbucks, all day shopping sprees and whispering about the latest gossip with my best friend Sophie. I looked over the forest of trees that bordered my backyard to the boring flat lake. I missed the ocean, with it's excited waves and salty mist. Why had I come here? Why couldn't I have just put on my big girl panties and sucked up my annoyance and embarrassment and stayed with my dad and his wife? But I knew my dad was silently relieved he didn't have to watch me anymore.
It was only for a year anyway. I turned eighteen 2 days after graduation and then I could move up north and go to college. I could last through senior year? Right? With those thoughts swirling around my head, I slowly drifted to sleep.

Kyle's POV
I walked out of my beta's back door and he started to follow me into the forest. As I was about to enter the trees a breeze flew by and I smelled the most amazing smell in the world.
Mate.
My wolf, Jordan, howled, and my head jerked to the right. There, laying curled up in a ball on the roof, was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She smelled of lavender and oranges, then she turned in her sleep, it was the most endearing thing if ever seen.
"What is it alpha?" My beta asked concerned, "Do you know that human?"
I hadn't noticed that she was human; I was still caught up in the magnificence of her scent. Jordan was yelling at me to jump onto the roof and claim her right then, but I resisted. Mate. Mate. Mate.
I know, I know. I said, trying to shut him up.
She was human, dang it, I'd have to wait until she was eighteen to claim her. Stupid laws. "She's mine." I said gruffly, then turned away and stomped into the forest. My wolf whined. Soon, I said to him, soon she will be ours forever.
