I was too late. All I could do was to stand up, gripping my revolver in anger as I hear his voice echoing through the woods.
"You're going to give me the manuscript or you'll be sorry!" his voice echoed in the forest, threatening me.
"No! Come back here!" I screamed at the top of my lungs in anger, threatening him at the same time. "I swear I'll kill if you hurt Alice! Do you hear me? Come back here!" However, I was not able to change anything with my voice alone. The same eerie silence filled the air again as I stood alone. I continued my journey to go back. Everything had been a disaster. He had Alice and he wanted the manuscript because he thought it held some magical powers. However, I had no manuscripts to give him. In fact, I was still in doubt if I actually wrote the manuscripts myself. Right now, I had to get back to Barry and figure out my next move.
I moved into the woods of uncertainties, seeing silhouettes ahead of me. I made my way carefully, shining my flashlight at the grassy areas. There were bear traps eveyrwhere and some were hidden carefully. My flashlight was my only way to see those traps as the light would reflect into my eyes. It would be a mine detector helping me to know where they were in the field of traps.
It was a short journey before I got out of the area of bear traps but my predicament was not over. The darkness was still lurking around the woods and the route that was ahead of me. I picked up a few revolver bullets and on the opposite side of the path that I was in, I saw a house with a water mill still working. I continued to move on. That might be the area I was supposed to reach first.
I walked onto a wooden log that have fallen, connecting two lands that were seperated from each other. I balanced onto the wooden logs, trying not to fall into the waters below as I raised out my hands, stretching out. The feeling of being soaked is already uncomfortable for me. Th owls hooted from the woods, making me jump and nearly lose balance. However, my determination to live and make it back alive to Barry have kept my balance. Ravens that were resting on the logs flew away once they felt my presence as I got closer and closer to the end.
As I walked onto the flat ground once more, I did not anticipate an ambush. I was too late to react when somebody growled behind me because I felt the sickle slicing my back before I could turn back. I could only evade them as I was still in shock. I needed time to collect my wits and I used a flare, forcing them back with the weakness of light. One of them must be oblivious to what I did as it stood near the flare and the protaction was already worn off from him. I raised my gun at it, killing it. Although the flare did not last long, it have given me the distance that I needed so that I was out of harm's reach. I shone my flashlight and managed to remove the protection from him. I pulled the trigger twice, hitting it and making sure its body disappeared. The next one met its fate too as I swung my body to face him, my revolver already at my eye level and I pulled the trigger without hesistation.
I hastened in the woods. The wind was howling in the night, this time ven more stronger than before. The ground shook as the winds continued to howl and I immediately sprinted. The same hissing of the wind that had made me utter, "What the hell," As soon as I finished my sentence, I felt another hostile presence behind me but again, I was met with the knife again. I shot it, whining in pain after I shone the flashlight at him. There were two more behind me, throwing their weapons a me and successfully hitting me. The pain pierced through my skin and my arm. I continued to run. My right hand was sturck by their weapons and it hurt so badly even something like holding up a revolver to aim became something that I could not do. My only way was to evade.
I ran uphill, dumping another flare onto the floor. The pink smoke ensured me that I was safe under its temporary protection. I raised up my flashlight, boosting it so that their protection went away. However, I was slow as I felt somebody pushing me from behind once the pink smokes of comfort have disppeared. I ran downhill towards the two of them. There were people behind me and I was taking an extremely big risk. I was risking my life. I felt another sharp pain at my chest, stabbing into my skin. The accumilated pain that I sustained moments ago threatened to make me lose my balance and fall down onto the floor. My visions were blurry but I was still able to identify who my foes were. I used my last flare and instead of standing under it, I moved behind the pink smokes. One of them was taken down by my bullets before I fleed. Another threatened to send the stick at my face but I dodged it, springing to my feet and ignoring the dreadness that was trying to shut my brain down. It might be my desperation to live but I took it down. Two mroe left as they walked down the hill. I took out one of them which is more agile than the other which is bigger sized. It swung its mallet at me but I once again dodged its weapon that tried to bring some severe damage to me. I spun to face him again, shooting him as I squeezed the trigger many times, not stopping until it went down.
I started up a generator that I found ouside a broken and run down house. It resulted in the creation of a sfae haven for me. I took a break inside its comfort, allowing it of relieve me of the pain. How long do I have to take to get out of the woods? I ventured around the small and abandoned hut. Inside, I noticed a hunting rifle, leaning on the wooden walls. The rifle itself consists of an invisible force as it attracted me to go and pick it up. It was at this point that I felt the earth shook. I jogged downhill next to find out what happened.
I reached the scene and the scene alone left my jaw dropping down and making be bewildered. An old plane was seen as the dust was clearing. I had heard the plane fall but none of this made any sense. It was clear that it had just fallen here but it was very old and it obviously have not been flown in decades. Looking at it sent a shiver down my spine. I continued my journey, leaping from boulder to boulder as I made my descent to a lower ground.
The lights up ahead was getting brighter now. This must be the lights that I have seen at the house moments ago. However, I was so enthusiastic that I must have failed to realise that my foes have turned up right in front of me while I was running towards them. Despite my realisation at the last moment, I dodged their attacks. The cold air brushed against my hair as I kept charging forward. I spun to face them with my flashlight and gun at them. They were too slow and their actions were predictable. I dodged their attacks and gave them the bullet of the revolver at their bodies, killing them.
The wind was howling again. I took the hunting rifle that I have slung on my back onto my hand before I moved on. The revens screeched in the night and I ran to the source of the light. It was getting clearer and clearer now. Its light is a guidance for me to go there and get some protection. What I did not realise is that it was a good source to ambush unwary people too. I learnt it the hard way as I felt the sharp edge of the knife and other weapons piercing me. I screamed in pain as I realised that I was cornered. This was the consequence of forgeting to be cautious about your surroundings.
I staggered towards the safe haven, trying to run. The enemy was still behind me, trying to hit me again. My legs were going to give way but I forced myself to reach the safe haven before I am hit again which I might die.
The rays of light shone onto me and I fell onto the ground, breathless. If I did not move on, I would be as good as dead.
