"Stay with me?"

Chapter 40

(Katniss' pov)

Today is the twins' first birthday. I can't believe it's been a year since they where brought into the world. A lot has happened over the year including Willow being captured, I still don't know what happened when Johanna and Haymitch went to rescue her. But I'm sure they'll tell me when they're ready.

It's coming to the end of the twins' party, everyone is here, Johanna and her partner, Haymitch, Effie, Cinna, my mother and Annie. I can hear Willow and Finn in the living room giggling as Haymitch try's to tickle them both. Peeta and I are both in the kitchen putting the candles on willow and Finns cake, "Should I call them in now?" I ask peeta and he lights the candles, "I think so" he replies with a wide grin. "Cakes ready!" I shout towards the living room, everyone comes pilling into the kitchen with Haymitch holding willow and my mother holding Finn. We all start singing happy birthday to them and I can't help but look over at Peeta who has a massive smile on his face, he's such a great father to willow and Finn, i never imagined me marrying and having children but now I couldn't imagine my life without any of them.

After we ate the cake and opened the presents we decided to put the twins to bed. I carry Finn and put him in his cot while Peeta does the same for willow, we both kiss the, goodnight then head back downstairs. I can see my mother at the door getting her coat and shoes on, "It's getting quite late so I'm going to head home, but thank you for such a lovely day" she tells us, she leans in and gives both me and Peeta a hug then slowly walks towards the door, everyone else hugs us and says their goodbyes and then leaves until its just me and Peeta. "You head up to bed and I'll lock up" I hear Peeta say behind me, I don't object to that as I'm completely exhausted. Once I get upstairs I take a quick shower and get dressing into my night gown, peetas already in bed by the time I've finished my shower so I climb into bed to. I lay my head in his chest as he wraps his arms around me, "Thank you" I tell him, "For what?" He asks, "Thank you for being you, for being a great father to the twins and a great husband, I wouldn't have what I have now if it wasn't for you. I love you so much Peeta Mellark" I reply, "And I love you too Katniss Mellark" he says, he leaned down and presses his lips to mine and kisses me passionately. We then drifted of into a calming sleep....
