It was early morning on the 11th as I made my way home, kicking stones as my feet dragged along the ground.

The stars shone above me, laughing and smiling.

Whilst I was below them, hurting and crying.

It was strange.

I'd never planned my death before.

Before it had all been on impulse. A split decision. A breakdown leading to an extreme.

But this was different.

This time, I wasn't going to fail.

It was all ready.

I'd completed my list.

There was nothing keeping me here.

I pulled my hands into my sleeves, shoving them into my pockets and shrinking back further into the hood of the sweater I was wearing.

I arrived back at the apartment just as Emma was leaving to go to the concert.

"Dan! Happy birthday! How was the hospital?"
She spotted the glistening of tears on my cheeks as I stood there silently, and stopped picking up her bag to give me a hug.

My arms stayed limply by my sides for a moment, before I returned the hug, not letting her see as more tears fell from my eyes.

"Bye, Emma."

The hug went on for too long.

Even as she waved goodbye, I found myself lingering in the doorway.

My last goodbye.

Soon I'd be one of the stars in the sky.
