Raven POV
"Raven!" my dad's voice called out. I cracked open an eyelid and was blinded by the sun streaming in through my window.
"What?" I exclaimed throwing off my blankets and sitting up. "get up! you don't want to be late for your job!" he answered. Oh right, it was Tuesday. I had to work Tuesday. yippee.
I groaned and stumbled out of bed nearly tripping over my dog smokey who woke with a start. I pet his head and tied his blue bandana around his neck. he's had the bandana ever since he was a puppy. I dragged myself down the stairs smokey close behind.
I sulked into the kitchen and smacked my head on the table. "morning princess." dad said pulling out various boxes of cereals. "I'm 100% sure I don't look like a princess right now." I said grabbing a bowl and dumping cereal into it.
I was halfway through my breakfast when dad checked the time on his watch, And gave me a look like his mustache might fall off. quickly grabbing piles and piles of sheet music he headed to the door. "got to go, don't forget to feed the dog!" he said closing the door. a few moments later I heard a motor and tires screeching as dad drove away.
I dumped the rest of breakfast into the sink and headed upstairs. I opened my dresser and pulled out skinny jeans and a Stormy blue top. I dress quickly and begin brushing my raven hair. I still remember when I got my blue and green streaks in my hair. i was ten. I went with my brother, cole.
Memories flooded my mind of him. I rub the scar that i have on my lip, from when we were messing around. I haven't seen him in years. he left when I was twelve, I'm sixteen now. said he went to go be a dancer at the Marty Oppenheimer school of performing arts. he sends dad letters frequently. Dad wants me to be a dancer too, but I can't dance. whenever I try to argue he always says the same thing.
" Come on raven. don't you want to be successful like your brother, cole?"
And it always ends in me storming out of the room and punching a wall or something. A hungry bark from smokey snapped me back into reality. I quickly braided my hair into a side braid and pulled on sneakers as I hopped down the stairs.
"Sorry boy." I say to smokey as I pour dog food into his bowl. he eats quickly. I pet him on the head a last time before walking out the door, locking it behind me.
I briskly walk the two blocks to the little dinner that I work at. I open the door and walk behind the counter, preparing myself for another day of customers.
But there was nothing I could do to prepare myself for what- or who I should say,was coming.
