Mrs. Smith sat there with tears rolling down her face and worry filled her eyes.
"So what are you going to do now?" She asked softly.
"I think I'm going on to the foster system. I've been with my grandma for a little bit, but she can't afford to keep me." I replied, completely sobbing at this point.
"I have a plan" she replies confidently
I looked at her confused "what are you talking about?"
She shook her head at me "My husband and I will sign up for foster care. I will request you if I can, and hope for the best"
At this point, I couldn't speak. I was to overwhelmed with my thoughts and tears that all I could do was thank and hug her.
I knew this was going to take a while, it takes about half a year to even get approved to be a foster parent, more so to actually be one. I was going to have to go through a few homes until getting to her, hopefully only one or two, but I had a glimpse of hope.
We both got up together, her holding me close to her, and walked back in to the classroom.
As we walked in, everyone was confused on why we were both crying so much, and were very persistent on knowing. I didn't let that happen however.
When I got "home" that day, I told my grandma what Mrs. Smith had proposed. She wasn't thrilled. She wanted to be able to keep me until Mrs. Smith could actually take me in, but she was already working 3 jobs trying to pay for bills, food, clothes, and my dance classes. (Which she had refused to stop paying for, as she knew it was the only thing I had left.)
She started crying and grabbed my hand.
"Honey, I have some very bad news"
I was confused on what it could be "what?"
"I love you so much, but I know what day you're getting taken to your new home."
Now I was crying too, "w-when"
"Next month, on the 2nd, you need to start packing now."
I ran up to my room, feeling a mix of emotions. I was sad, angry, but yet curious. I wanted to know who I was going to end up with, and maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't be so bad.
