The weeks had flown by fast. The day that I had been dreading was here. When I woke up, I got up and looked in the mirror. Mascara was streaked down my face, and my hair was knotted. I could care less though.
I got dressed and washed my face, knowing the people would be here soon to pick me up. I threw on a sweatshirt and some sweatpants, not caring wtf I looked like.
I grabbed my suitcase and headed down stairs. There was breakfast on the table in the dining room, with fresh roses in the center. They were white, with a little brown on the edges from oxidation. My grandma knew me well, she didn't get red ones. I don't like red roses, I think they're clichē.
I put my suitcase by the door, and headed over to the dining room. My grandma was sitting in one of the chairs. I could tell she'd been crying, but I didn't need to ask why, I already knew.
The next few hours were all a blur. I wasn't sure exactly where I was, but it looked nice enough. There were girls everywhere. Some my age, some younger or older. I was so confused, as I was just dropped off here with no explanation on what I was supposed to be doing. All the girls seemed to be getting ready for something, something big I thought. They all had elegant dresses on, and light makeup with their hair curled or up.
One girl, was not getting ready however. She came up to me and introduced herself as Rose.
"Oh hi, you must be the new girl!"
" u-uh ya I guess I am"
"Ok, I need you to listen to me very carefully. These girls are getting ready for an auction. Now, you will not have to get ready for this, but you do have to take a test. If you fail the test, you get sold at the next upcoming auction. If you pass, you get to stay here with me."
"B-but what's the test on? Like math or history?"
Rose had a concerned look on her face now. "How old are you?"
"17?"
Rose started to tear up a bit, but blinked it away fast. "Ok well, just whatever you do, make sure you listen to them and NEVER disobey them."
"Wait, disobey who?"
"You'll find out soon enough honey, just listen to my advice and you'll be able to stay here with me, you want that don't you?" She pushed a strand of my hair behind my ear.
"Ya I guess" I whispered.

I had no clue what was in store for me, and little did I know that it wasn't good.
