Victoria let out a sigh of relief hearing Mel's news. She had her doubts. By the way Melanie looked, Victoria feared the worst. "Yay! I get to see daddy! Can we go to the hospital now mama?" Beth asked, jumping up. She was in a rush to see her father. And Melanie didn't blame her. Melanie was anxious to see him herself.
Melanie held up her hand. "Woah there sweetie. Not so fast." Beth glanced at her mother. A pout formed on her face. "But you promised I could see him soon as he woke!" Melanie took a deep breath. "I know.. And you still can. But one thing you need to understand.. It'll take him a little while to become one hundred percent focused. We can pack up and head over there. But we still should give him some time." Mel wanted to make sure everything was in tact, before allowing Beth in Anthony's room. As she knew there could be some complications. And if there was, Mel wanted to see herself. In case she needed to prepare Beth for any changes. Melanie didn't want Beth going into the unknown. Only to have her worry about her father further.
If Beth went in, and something seemed off. It would freak her out. Especially if she wasn't warned ahead of time about it. "I should go in and check on him first. Make sure he's up for visitors." Beth narrowed her eyes, looking somewhat confused. "But I'm his daughter. Why wouldn't he be up for talking with me?" Melanie took a deep breath. Stealing a sideways glance at Victoria. Most of the time, she knew what to do and say. But this sort of thing was tricky for a five year old's understanding. "You both went through a great ordeal Beth. Your father is still going to need plenty of rest. To gain his strength back. Of course he can't wait to see you. He's missed you as much as you missed him. But give Anthony some time first.. He might not be up for talking right away. But I know he will be super excited when he does finally get to see you." She said. Hoping that would lift Beth's spirits a little. "I'll be super quiet." Beth continued on. Trying to change her mother's mind. Beth was desperate to see her father. And would do anything to see him right away. Mel gave her daughter a small smile. "I know you will be. I know you're anxious to see him. And you will.. In time.."
Beth sighed. "Okay mommy.." Once they got things settled, and back into the car. The five of them piled in and made their way towards the hospital. Melanie grew more anxious with each passing minute. Not sure what she should expect, when going to see Anthony. Melanie knew things would be different. She feared when she entered the room, Anthony would be the person he was when they first met. Full of anger and hate because things altered in his life once again. She grew afraid Anthony would be angry with her for not letting him reunite with his sister. Melanie assumed that was the only reasoning Anthony had wanted to give up so easy. To be with Greta. And Mel wouldn't let him.
She knew the accident changed both of them. It did with Beth. Mel knew that was for certain. As her daughter didn't have the spunk like before. She was more quiet. And the information Victoria mentioned earlier, scared Melanie. Beth seemed distant, and closed off. The event altered her life for the worst. Mel feared it did the same with Anthony as well. And if Mel's calculations were correct. She didn't want Beth exposed to that side of Anthony. She wanted Beth to remember her father how he was before the accident. Gentle.. Loving.. Caring.. And Mel hoped if Anthony did turn back to his old self. She prayed he'd be able to contain the anger in front of his daughter. Mel assumed he would. As she knew Anthony wouldn't want Beth learning of his dark side.
"Give me a few minutes to talk with him. Then I'll message Victoria when you can come in. Does that sound okay?" Mel asked. Turning her attention on her daughter. Bethany stayed quiet a moment, considering the option. "Okay.." Mel smiled a little, letting her hand rest on Beth's arm. "Thank you, I will see you in a bit." She hugged Beth, so she knew things were okay. Then opened the door, and got out of the car. Sneaking her way into the hospital.
