chapter twelve

The hall was evenly decorated with alot of flowers. The lighting of the hall was so magnificent that it looked so much like heaven. A life band was performing and I could see young girls dancing. My father was sitted with his goons hovering all over the places. I could see that our town people were all dressed beautifully. Everyone seemed to be happy.
Spotting Karan sitted I immediately lowered my gaze to the floor the moment I sat down.
I knew he tried his best at getting Sahel.
Soon everyone became silent so were the drummers. My dad immediately got up and began to shoot his gun in the air as everyone cheered.
So today my daughter Mahi is getting married said dad lowering his gun. Did you know she tried to run away cause she was afraid to tell me? Said dad and everyone began to laugh again.
'So priest do carry on"said dad as he took his seat.
"Please step forward the bride and groom; requested the priest. Carefully sitting down I looked outside hoping to see Sahel, but still no one appeared.
Soon all the lights went off as everyone began to panic.
Hey Mahi it me Mahi. Come stand up she said as she immediately took me out. I noticed she was putting on the same saree as me. Look stay here while I pretend to be you . She said.
But Mahi what if we get caught and how did you come up with this idea?
It's all aunt Bani idea. Now go she said as she immediately took her seat on the chair.
Soon the lights came on and everyone cheered.
It was just a minor power out. Carry on said my dad.
Hey Mahi. It's time to go now, said aunt Bani instructing pintu to take my luggages which I had earlier packed.
But aunt what about Karan and Mahi. It's best I stay here. Please.
No you can't I'm taking you home now come. Said aunt Bani as we both walked to the car waiting for Karan and Mahi.

Karan pov
Looking at Mahi I found her head lowered as I knew what she might be thinking. I knew she over head my conversation with Aunt Bani. Still thinking of what to say to her I immediately felt her rubbing my thigh underneath the table.
Hey what are you doing Mahi stop I whispered as I battled to keep her at Bay. Just then my eyes caught site of something. The anklet which I gave to Mahi my wife. Could it be that it's actually my Mahi. I thought as I lowered my head trying to see her face. I caught her smiling and pinched her on the hand.
How did you get here?
Aunt Bani plan.
Now we're finally getting married Karan. Now once the light goes off the second time. Get ready to run.
Run, to where and where's Mahi?
In the car waiting for us. Replied Mahi in a low tune.
Ok. I replied as I slowly looked upstairs. Holding unto Mahi hand the lights suddenly went out again. Standing up immediately while holding Mahi I made for the door
Ooh that was so scary I said the moment we got into the car. Now Pintu drive fast we ordered and in no time we were out of danger.

By the time we got home everyone was worried sick.
Mahi and Mahi Gupta why are you both wearing a wedding dress asked kunj stepping forward.

No need to explain Mahi I'll do it said Karan as everyone listened patiently.
So that's it said Karan taking his seat.
Look here Mahi you're always welcomed here. Now I don't think here is safe for you and all of us as well. We need to relocate. Said kunj as  he made his way upstairs.
Come sister I'll show you to your room said mahi taking me upstairs.

So this is your new room. We're all leaving this house tomorrow. Go freshen up I'll bring you something to eat. Said mahi as she made to leave the room.
Thank you mahi I don't know how to repay you all, but I will pray to the almighty to always protect this family.
No it's nothing Mahi. It's called selflessness. You need to be happy. Now cheer up.
Yeah I replied as I watched her close the door.

Carefully booking the flights for everyone I decided to go help Sahiba with the clothes she was packing. Getting into the changing room I found her stretching so hard to reach my bag. Closing the gap between us I slowly reached for the bag and watched as she stiffened because of close contact.
Here you go I said handing the bag over.
T. Thank you she stammered as she immediately left for the room.
Smiling to myself I packed the extra towel and bathing jells before zipping the bag. Alot had transpired within this few days. My family protection was the first thing on my mind.
Walking out I found Sahiba zipping our luggages. The room looked quite empty as I slowly sat on the bed staring at the room.
You go to sleep while I go freshen up I told her.
Yeah you're right she said as I watched her climb into bed before exiting the room.

By the time I got out she was already fast asleep. Sitting on the table close to the bed I admired her beautiful innocent face. Smiling to myself I tucked the loose strand of hair behind her ears and slowly walked to the sofa. Looking outside i could see the moon high in the sky.
Soon a gush of wind gushed past my face giving me that chilly feeling. Closing the door I slowly walked to the bed and tucked Sahiba in properly. She was a heavy sleeper. Despite my battle to cover her up she didn't flinch a bit.
Closing my eyes I immediately drifted to sleep. Knowing tomorrow was  a new beginning for us.

Opening my eyes I just smiled. Kunj did have a soft spot for me. It was all part of pretence to be strict. His touch sent shivers down my body. His unending gaze also. How could God have created such a handsome husband for me. Noticing he had climbed the bed I soon let my eyelids fall and blackout engulfed me.
