Elise Layton 👠

Jack barges into my room on Saturday morning, glaring at me and I continue to hum along to the music on my phone.

"Can you please just answer the door to him. He's driving me to the point of committing a murder but he's bigger than me and he'll hurt me." He literally sounds on the verge of tears.

Blake has been knocking at the front door ever since my aunt and uncle left to go the mall. Evidently Jack is now getting angry at him too, so he can also join my angry-at-Blake-Coleman pity party.

The knocking stops and Jack's shoulders relax, "oh thank the lord." He turns to leave when we hear a knock on my window. Jack looks at me with wide eyes, probably thinking the same thing as me, we're on the second floor.

I walk over to the window, open it and look down to see Blake braced and ready to throw a stone.

"What are doing?! You're going to break my window." I call down to him.

"Elise, please talk to me." He tilts his cute blond head to the side, waiting for my response. He's looking at me like a sad puppy and it quickly breaks my resolve.

"Give me two minutes." I tell him, raising two of my fingers up and closing the window.

I check that my pink sweatshirt doesn't have any I-just-broke-up-with-my -boyfriend ice cream on it and once I deem myself clean enough I descend the staircase.

I think Jack is going to be annoyed at me for eating the last of his Ben and Jerry's cookie dough ice cream. Hopefully he'll take the news like a man and realise my dilemma. It's a rule that when you break up with a boy you have to eat ice cream or chocolate. I swear it's somewhere in the girls handbook to life. It makes you feel better, but then comes a second dilemma. Eating ice cream and chocolate are unhealthy and give you spots.

I pull open the front door and step out, wrapping my arms around myself for comfort. I know this conversation is going to be anything but easy. The sun instantly warms my skin, I step onto the grey path and bite down on my lip as I look at Blake.

"Can I take you somewhere?" He asks me and I nod solemnly after a few seconds of deliberation.

I follow Blake across to his driveway and he unlocks his car. He goes over to the passenger door, opens it and gestures with his hand for me to get in. I buckle my seatbelt while he gets into the drivers side.

Blake starts the engine and we drive off through the streets in silence. I look out through the window at the rows of houses that we pass and the scenery soon turn to fields of corn. We reach a turn off that leads upwards and soon come to a stop at the top of a hill. The scene ahead of us is beautiful, with rolling green fields and yellow flowers.

"I don't want this to be over." Blake says quietly, turning in his seat to face me.

"I gathered that by your social media status's this morning. Why on earth would you put your status as, 'married to Elise Layton' the day after we broke up?"

"We will be one day." He smiles at me, looking between my eyes and my lips.

"Blake..." I trail off and sigh heavily, rubbing my hand over my eyes in frustration.

"I think you're underestimating how much you've been hurting me. How hard is it for you to move away from a girl who's trying to touch you and tell her you have a girlfriend?"

"I honestly never meant to hurt you. It was dumb of me to not think of you. I get that I fu*ked up. I'm not the only one though, am I?" He bites down on his lip, looking annoyed.
