It's the last chapter. There will be an epilogue, and maybe a sequel ;) song for this chapter: Still Believe by Jordan Jansen. IT WILL HELP WITH THE MOOD, TRUST ME. :D Anyways, thank you guys SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. Thanks for reading :) -Sarah
It'd been almost ten years since I left.
Hard to believe, I know. But it had. I'd left in 2002, it now being 2012. So, yes. It's been ten years.
Wow. It's weird, because back then everything was so..different. My life was, for sure. But my friends and everyone..it was all different.
I had graduated in 2006, sometime around then, maybe 2007. I was now a soccer player, an expert ice skater--but I was an author. Well, sort of. I hadn't published any books, but I was almost done with my first one.
I decided to go to Starbucks to finish the last chapter. I tried not to think about it, but the fact this book was almost over really made me sad. I didn't have much of an ending, but I mean..it all..what happened to me, helped me believe.
I walked into Starbucks. It wasn't crowded, of course. I wasn't one for coffee, so I got some hot chocolate. It was sometime in September, so it was a little cold outside.
"Hello Ms. Fell, how are you today?" the cashier said. I guess you could say I'm a regular here. "Wait....you're Leslie Fell, aren't you?"
"Yeah....Jake?"
He smiled. The kid who we'd gone to the party that night that..the car wreck happened. He walked out from behind the counter and gave me a hug. "What are you doing in New York?"
"Busy working." I smiled. "I'm about to publish a book."
"Really! About your experience in high school?"
"Yeah, basically."
The woman at the table nearby looked as if she was thinking. Maybe she knows Jake.
Jake went back behind the counter and started making the hot chocolate. "I miss Wesley, you know."
"I miss him too. I can't believe it's been ten years already."
"Really?"
"Yeah, it happened in September 2000."
"I'm really sorry, I know you guys didn't get along for a long time but I know he still liked being your friend."
"I know..it's just hard, losing someone."
"I understand. I feel like it's my fault."
"It wasn't, Jake. It was my fault."
He handed me the hot chocolate. "It wasn't your fault, Leslie. If it wasn't him, it'd be someone else. Remember that dream you had? Then that Cody kid came to our class and looked just like the kid in your dream? It could've been him for all we know."
"You're right. Thanks Jake."
"No problem. Let me know if you need ideas for your book."
I took my drink and sat down. I was writing at a normal pace, but with little excitement. I put down my pencil and put my head in my hands. The woman who had been thinking asked, "Are you okay?"
I looked up. "Oh yeah, I'm alright. Just this book of mine is a lost cause." I said.
"Nothing's a lost cause." she said. She got up and sat across from me. "Do you mind if I sit here?"
"I don't mind." I said.
"What's your name?" music starts now (: hahahaha
"Leslie."
