Nicki's P.O.V

I sat in my room thinking long and hard to myself. When did life become so complicated.

Believe it or not things weren't always like this.

I remember when I first met Rihanna, she was quiet and to herself, it took me a while to get to actually know her for who she was rather believe the rumors people spread of her.

Flashback

So many emotions took over me as I looked at the huge building. Baytown Highschool, it read in big bold letters.

You'd think I've gotten used to it by now but honestly it's still nerve wrecking.

Imagine having to leave all your friends behind. Leaving to a new continent where you have zero family and familiarity.

Ten years ago I was taken away from my homeland. I was only five at the time, see I would've been excited but the thought of leaving my mother was all too much for little Onika.

Of course I didn't come alone. I lived with my grandmother who'd taken care of me and my older brother until my mother and was able to make enough money to come here.

"What are you waiting for? Go in!"

"It's huge..." I replied watching as hundreds of kids entered the building.

Letting out a soft chuckle momma reached for my hand as she placed a small gold necklace in my palm.

"This belonged to my grandmother. My mother gave it to me when I was just about your age, now I'm passing it down to you Onika. I want you to keep this close to you as it represents the presence of My grandmother, your grandmother and me"

As she lifts her hand I release my fist to get a better look. It was a plain gold collar necklace embedded with matte red black and brown beads.

"This is beautiful"

"That's what I said" My mother smiled. She put the necklace on me and gave me a tight hug before hurrying me to class.

"Wait you're not coming in with me?" I grew with fear as she stopped midway in her tracks.

"Baby what did we talk about? You have to be more independent" She crossed her arms while raising a brow.

"Okay...bye momma" I sigh. She's right. This is highschool, I'm not in middle school anymore.

If Jehlani can do it so can I.

Easy said than done. The second I walked in I was caught in a hurdle.

Everyone was taller than me. I was shoved and pushed so many times the I lost count.

My first year in highschool went well. So far I don't know if I can say the same for the second year.

And it doesn't help that I transferred midterm.

"Watch where you're going!" I'm knocked off my feet before I could even do so.

It's your first day. Don't let it get to you.

I tell myself before shaking it off.

As predicted I was late to class. Everyone's head turned to me once I got the welcoming from the teacher to come in.

"And you must be...O-Onika?" She struggles to pronounce. I nod a yes.

"Well welcome. I'm Mrs. Thompson, class please introduce yourselves to your new classmate"
