Our Future (2)

I leaned back on the door of my parent's car while waiting for Lauren outside of the path train exit. She texted me and told me that she was close by. After a minute or two of scrolling through Instagram, I saw a crap ton of people rush out of the exit and disperse to wherever their destination was. In the midst of that crowd, I saw a flannel that I could never forget. In the middle of my teenage crisis, I took a fashion class and one of the assignments was to make a shirt that would appeal to people of our age. I made a flannel, got a decent grade but I wasn't proud enough of it to wear it myself. So she took ownership and after 2 years of wear and tear, it stills looks wearable.

She pushed past some people and made her way to me with a huge grin on her face. I opened my arms for a big hug and she didn't disappoint. She squeezed me incredibly tight but I couldn't complain because this is the first hug that we've had in months. It felt like we were standing there for a good 5 minutes before she let go and kissed me with her hands holding onto my face.

She pulled away and rested her forehead on mine with a huge smile still on her face. I couldn't help but laugh at her.

"Was that our last kiss? Is it the end of the world?" I laughed and she kept that huge smile on her face.

"I missed you so much. You still smell amazing." She says as she brings me into another one of her tight hugs.

"I missed you too Laur but if you hug me any tighter then I'll explode."She pulls away from me and I open the passenger side door for her as gives me another kiss before sliding in the seat and throwing her backpack onto the car floor as I shut the door.

Walking over to the driver's side I slide into the uncomfortable seat and start the car to drive us home.

*30 MINUTES LATER*

After picking up some food for us and my parents, we had finally made it home. I shove my keys into the lock and turn it. We both walk in and I see my parents sitting in the living room watching TV. My mom jumps up and runs over to give Lauren a big hug.

"Oh Lauren, we've missed seeing you around here."

"I've missed you too Mrs.Y/LN. And you too Mr.Y/LN" She peers behind my mother to look at my father.

"Nice to have you back Lauren." My dad says quickly as he gets back into his baseball game.

"Dad, come greet her. You can rewatch that game later."

"It's never the same as when it's live sweetie. I'll see her at dinner."

"Sorry about that girls, he's been being a cranky old man lately. But dinner is ready, we've just been waiting on you two." She says with a friendly smile.

"Dinner? I brought us food because I didn't think that you were cooking."

"Well, you can eat that tomorrow. I decided last minute to cook, I'm sure Lauren hasn't had a homecooked meal in months."

"A nice meal sounds awesome, let me just wash my hands and put my bag away." She says as she walks up the stairs towards my bedroom.

"Fine, I'll put this in the fridge I guess..."

*10 MINUTES LATER*

With everyone sitting at the dinner table we all dug in.

"So, how's New York treating you, Lauren?" My father asks as he cuts up his chicken parmesan.

"It's overwhelming, but it's for the best in the long run. I'm hoping to get an internship over the summer so I don't have to work through my next semester."

"You're still working that part-time job? I thought you were quitting?"

"Dad, I told you that she decided not to quit...you'd know that if you stopped watching TV long enough to have a conversation with me."
