Skyler Rae's POV

Running has always been my second choice other than hockey. I've been running since I was able to join the cross country team, which was seventh grade. I convinced by my best friend Emma Payton to do it and ever since then I've loved the sport.

"Skyler?" My brother Brooks snapped his fingers in front of me. "You were pretty zoned out there. What are you thinking about?" He asked me. I shrugged and went to my bathroom. Brooks was two years older than me and a way better hockey player, or well goalie I should say. He also does cross country, but I definitely beat him at that.

I texted my team chat about the big meet coming up tomorrow. This meet would help us get into the state meet which is a big thing to us girls.

❤️XC Team💙

Hey ladies! What time is the bus picking us up tomorrow? ~Sky

9:35am. ~Emma

I'm so excited! ~Mari

Me too! ~Lauren

Anyways, we should go to bed now so that we are well rested and ready to run tomorrow. Let's kick so butt! ~Amanda

Of course Amanda would say that. She was more of a motivational leader that help people keep up their hard work. Emma was by far the fastest runner in the team and I was close second. Mari and Lauren just joined the team this year and it's their fist meet, so they are very excited. The rest of the team was most likely asleep, so I fell asleep.

I woke up and went to the living room. My single dad was sitting on the coach passed out. I places a soft blanket on top of him.

Then I ran up to my room and changed into the team uniform. Which was spandex shorts and a red and blue tank top that had the schools logo in the middle. I slipped on the blue sweats that was quite warm.

I went the bathroom. My blue eyes popped with my sweats. I tied my blinds hair in a ponytail then brushed my teeth and went to my room. I had packed my duffel bag last night, so I grabbed that and ran to my yellow Jeep. I picked up Emma and we headed to school.

I went on the warm charter bus and looked for an empty seat. Everyone had parters who they sat with, but I didn't. I frantically searched, but the only spot open was next to Payton. My crush since Brooks introduced us. He is in my grade. He has the deepest brown eyes and the wavy brown/blonde hair that was messy and cute.

"Can I sit here?" I asked. His brown eyes met my blue ones.

"Anytime Sky." He smiled. I put my duffel bag under the seat then sat down.
