Chapter Fifteen

Emma Payton's POV

As I slowly opened my eyes they focused on the world around me. Everyone was getting up from their seats. I watched as one by one jumped off of the bus. I yanked my spikes and hydro flask from my duffel bag. Then I followed the crowd of my teammates.

We stopped at a spot and set up the tarp. When the tarp was ready everyone piled their things together and talked to one another. I walked up to Skyler, Payton,and Brooks.

"Hey." I smiled. Skyler was already out of her sweats, which is crazy of her because the wind is making Alaska colder than normal.

"Hello." She beamed. Brooks just waved and Payton smiled. This team is like family to me, so I knew everyone very well. That means it's not awkward for me to talk to them, or anyone for that matter.

"Ready to run?" I asked them.

"Hell yeah!" Brooks shouted.

"I'm with him." Payton laughed.

"I just want to get it over with." Skyler groaned. She always tried her best to stick with me during meets, but ends up falling back.

I glanced at Payton who was smiling at Skyler. It made my heart melt to know the two like each other, well I can confirm Skyler likes him. I don't know exactly if Payton likes her but it seems like it.

After talking with them the team dragged Skyler and I away to stretch.

The adrenaline kicked in when we lined up at the starting line. The operator shot the gun, alarming us to run and so I did. Skyler stick with me for 2k then fell back. Now was the time to get faster since there is only 3k left.

I approached the hill very fast. Get faster and faster as I got closer. On one side was a sharp drop that is 15 feet deep, and on the other it just keep going up a mountain.

As I enjoyed the view, I slipped. I plummeted down the side with the drop. I screamed as I fell all 15 feet. It felt like an hour before hitting the ground, landing on my leg. I laid on the ground, unable to get up. My leg was in sharp pain and I tried to move it, but no use.
