Payton Morn's POV

I looked into the mirror. My red and blue shorts with the schools logo on the left side and the team tank top. I flopped my brown/blonde hair to one side, but it went messy. I slipped on the warm up sweats and headed to the kitchen where my mom was making pancakes. A ritual before every meet.

"Morning mom." I chirped and she smiled as I sat at the counter.

"Morning Payton." She smiled. I never knew why she was so happy. My dad had left her when I was ten and she hates her job. I checked my fit bit, 7:20am. "Have to go mom. Bye!" I shouted as I grabbed my duffel bag.

Today was the biggest meet for cross country. It is in Nome, Alaska. The trail we run as a sharp hill that can be very dangerous, but you can rally pick up speed. I jumped into my white Jeep and drove to school.

Time ticked by very slowly, but it was finally time to get onto the bus. I sat in an empty seat that seemed to be only one. I set my duffel bug under my seat and slid by the window.

I zoned out until I heard someone.

"Can I sit here?" Skyler asked. I looked at her. Her bright blue eyes glistened and she smiled. God I love that smile. She is my best friend, Brooks' younger sister. She is a junior like me. Brooks is a senior.

"Anytime Sky." I smiled. She set her stuff under the seat and sat next to me. I met Skyler from her older brother, Brooks. I have had a huge crush on her since we met, but I never would tell her that.

She opened a book and read. I shifted around until I was comfy and rested my head on the window. The drive was seven hours long and we won't be there till five. We run at six then stay at a hotel over night then drive back tomorrow. I soon fell asleep to the sound of music through my air pods.
