"Well. That worked better than expected," Candy huffed as she leaned back. Diana nodded and looked at the forcefield encasing piles of dust.
"You know," Arianna began, "I thought this would be just a dumb idea from Candy instead of it actually working."
"Why you little—" Candy began before getting interrupted by Diana.
"Marisol, go check on the rest of the boys. Candy, go ahead and check on the other Volatus and see if there's any grave injuries," Diana commanded and moved over to break the force field. Marisol nodded and ran off, looking for the boys. While she wandered the halls, her mind wandered towards Youngjae. Her face flushed as she thought of Youngjae and his body. She honestly wasn't expecting to see that when she went to go get him. Her feet stilled as she heard quiet whispering in a room and she pressed her ear against it to listen closer, barely making out a few words.
"We...leave... can't stay... dangerous" the people inside whispered. Her lips turned into a frown as she slowly turned the door knob. Sucking in a deep breath, she pushed the door open and was met with... nothing? Her eyebrows furrowed as she glanced around and saw nothing out of the ordinary.
"Hello?" Marisol called out confidently, taking in the room. Her eyes landed on one corner that looked darker than usual. She tentatively took a step towards it before the sound of a door swinging open interrupted her train of thought.
"Marisol!" Jackson's voice called out. She turned around to see Jackson and Namjoon coming out of the room across from her. She turned around towards the dark corner and blinked at it curiously when she saw it look normal once more. Quickly shrugging it off, she told the boys to go to the training room. With a nod, the boys bounded off, leaving Marisol behind to look for everyone else.
Marisol sighed as one thought ran through her mind, this'll take a while.
Youngjae glanced at Marisol, his fingers itching to hold her hand. Unfortunately, Marisol got stuck doing some paperwork, causing her to sigh in frustration. Youngjae stared at her amused when she threw her pen down on the table and she flopped back in her chair.
"I give up!" Marisol sighed.
"Why? It shouldn't be too hard," Youngjae told her, reaching for the paperwork.
"Considering I don't even know what creatures were here since Kylie and I got stuck with a harpy, yeah it's pretty hard." Marisol shot back. He raised his hands in surrender and glanced at her tense shoulders.
"C'mon," Youngjae told her, standing up and grabbing her wrist. "You've worked enough for today."
"But—"
"No but's! You need some fun!" And with that, Marisol allowed herself to be dragged by Youngjae to god knows where.
"Youngjae! We aren't allowed here!" Marisol hissed as he continued dragging her to Diana's library.
"So?" Youngjae snorted.
"So Diana is going to kill us if she finds us!"
"You said it Marisol, if she finds us."
"Seems like a big if to me!"
"C'mon! I'll just take the blame, don't worry so much." Marisol sighed at those words but decided to be rebellious for once.
"Fine, But you're taking the blame and you owe me food if we get caught."
"Deal." And with that, Marisol followed him, a soft smile playing at her lips. Youngjae glanced back and saw her smile, his heart fluttering at how soft she looked. Usually he was used to the short-tempered girl in battle, one who fights without an ounce of regret. Now, he sees Marisol as who she really is, a young woman. She doesn't seem like a warrior anymore, she looks like a girlfriend. His girlfriend. Youngjae felt his ears flush and he continued walking. Feelings are dangerous in this world, he knows it. But maybe one or two feelings would be okay, his brain brought up. Yeah, that'll be fine.
"Youngjae? We're here now, open the door!" Marisol whined tugging on his arm.
"Why should I open it?"
"So that if we get caught, no one will say that I helped." Youngjae stared at her in disbelief before shaking his head. He turned towards the dark oak doors and heaved them open.
His jaw dropped as he took in the library. It seemed mystical at this time, with the moonlight pouring in from the glass roof and the designs on the glass casted a shadow on the floor. It was small and circular, with bookshelves reaching the roof and filling the entire wall. His eyes took in how the shadow in the floor seemed to form an intricate pattern, one that seemed to tell a story.
"It's a legend," Marisol spoke up, seeing his interest in the glass ceiling. "Legend goes that on nights of the full moon, a Volatus is able to hear her soulmates feelings for them. The moon is able to connect the Volatus and its soulmate to make it easier to find. Course, I doubt it's real. It's just something the old Natu would tell us to have us keep faith on our soulmates. Diana prohibited us from entering after he died though."
"Why?" Youngjae spoke up, surprised to hear his voice come out so low.
"Natu Seungwoo was killed here. Diana then held this place close in her heart and stopped coming here too." Marisol explained calmly. Youngjae stares at her before yanking her towards the middle of the glass ceiling. "What are you doing?!"
"Seeing if the legend is true!"
"I already told you, it isn't!"
"How do you know?!"
"Because I've tried! Before he died, I tried over and over again to reach my soulmate but nothing happened..." Marisol trailed off.
"Maybe we need to wish harder." Marisol stared at him confused before shrugging and closing her eyes. Her hands came together as she pleaded for her soulmate's voice to come in her head.
Youngjae felt his breath cut short. Her long eyelashes brushed her cheeks, making her look innocent. Her lips formed a pouty frown as they moved softly to her mumbles. In the moonlight, her wings glittered, almost seeming holographic. He didn't understand how someone could look so beautiful. He stared longer at her figure, taking notice of how she was the perfect height for forehead kisses and for him to tuck her small frame into him. How she was the right size to cuddle and for him to coddle her. He knew she wouldn't like that, but his brain brought up image after image of different date scenarios.
"Youngjae," Marisol called out softly. He broke out of his daydream and took notice of her eyes. Her eyes...were... different. He was used to seeing a mischievous glint or a nervous one. But he wasn't used to seeing them twinkle. Under the moonlight, her eyes became different hues of brown, mixing in and swirling together to make a shade of brown he can only identify as Marisol. Offhandedly, his mind brought up Bruno Mars and his song Just The Way You Are.
"Youngjae, are you alright?"
"Marisol," he hesitated. "Be honest." She hummed. "Do...do you feel anything for me...?" He took notice of her cheeks turning pink and her breath catching in her throat. With no words, Youngjae understood. It wasn't a one way love story.
"Tell me if this is too much," Youngjae whispered out, pulling Marisol to be flush against him. He leaned down and brushed their lips together softly. Immediately he felt a jolt. Of electricity or of love or anything really, but he felt it.
"Is this okay?" Youngjae whispered against their lips. Marisol didn't answer. She pulled him down to kiss properly instead. After all, actions speak louder than words.
Behind the door, Diana slipped out of the library. An alarm rang in her room, informing her of someone breaking into the library. She thinks it's okay to turn a blind eye just this once.
