Diana huffed out in frustration as her eyes darted over the map. In front of her stood a wall covered with a map of the world. Her eyes shifted from place to place as her mind raced with any possible locations.
"Natu? I didn't expect to see you here," Candy's voice rang out into the room. Diana turned around and smiled softly at her. "What are you doing?" Candy asked, tilting her head to the side.
"I'm looking."
"For...?"
"For the battle." Candy frowned at her and looked at her, expecting a more thorough answer. "Fine. I feel like it's going to be a large battle, and I don't want too many casualties. So I'm going to evacuate a country and we will set up base and continue fighting there." Candy, more satisfied with that answer, nodded and decided to help her look for some place better to work at.
Apollo's footsteps fell heavily through the hallways. His thin lips pulled into a tight line and his curls bounced gently in front of his hazel eyes. With each step, the atmosphere seemed to drop and it also seemed as if he was searching. His eyes flicked from door to door as his steps seemed to also shake the floor and the walls surrounding him. Demons in the hallway quickly moved to the side to avoid his anger. One wasn't so quick as it yelped after being stepped on. Apollo spared him no second glance as he neared a door.
It was cast iron, the door, and had a lock closing it. He glared at the door and heaved it open, his hand going around the cool metal. Startled, Miya's head whipped to the door. He glanced at her but focused his stare at the small bundle on the floor.
"Miya, what are you doing here?" Apollo drawled.
"Nothing sir. I just came to check on the prisoner," Miya replied, moving to stand behind him. Apollo hummed but paid little attention.
"You may leave Miya. The little girl and I have some matters to attend to."
Abri's head whipped up when she heard a soft click from the door. Bracing herself, she glared at the door. Soon, a slim volatus entered, her black wings pressed into her side.
"Little girl? Are you awake?" The volatus asked softly, not daring to turn around.
"My name is Abriheit."
"Alright, Abriheit. How do you feel?" Miya asked her, moving to sit down next to Abriheit.
"I would feel better if my hands weren't tied."
"I know, but... there's a type of curse that let's Apollo know when the locks are disturbed. I'm sorry." Abri's eyes shifted towards the Volatus warrily. Before, this was the one who tortured her, now she's checking up on her. Abri felt a small warmth in her chest, bringing up memories of her and Marisol hanging out. Candy's smile when they played and just a general warmth filled her chest. But still, she couldn't trust her.
"Why are you here? Why are you suddenly nice to me?"
Miya sucked in a breath, "This might sound strange but I can see the future."
"What?"
"It's weird, my family tree I mean. My father is—was a human. And he told me tales of a beautiful woman he found when he was travelling India. They hooked up and it wasn't until my mother gave birth to me that she told him. She's a Vetal—"
"A what?"
"Vetals can see the future. They were said to have been extinct but here I am. When I was 2, I left to the Volatus society and was raised as a weapon since I could tell the future. But it isn't... good vision? Like I can see glimpses of it, and it's not always correct since the future can change. I can't see that change since I'm not fully blooded."
Abri nodded and her mind raced and she tugged experimentally on her cuffs.
"Will I be able to escape?" She asked innocently. Miya hesitated before responding.
"I don't know. It doesn't work like that. I only get visions, I don't control them. But I need your help." Abri looked at her confused. "I know we aren't in the best of terms, but Diana will die if I don't help her. I know how to help, so please help me." Abri looked into Miya's eyes, searching desperately for any lie so that she can just say no and continue to try and find out how to leave. But alas, she turned up empty. She couldn't see anything out of the ordinary and she exhaled deeply.
"All right. I'll help you. But please help me leave..." Abri whimpered. Miya nodded her head rapidly.
"I promise."
"All right. Diana has us learn a communicating spell. It was implemented after you guys went missing, but before I came to the society. It's simple, it's like a small window that can cause you to see them and talk to them. One rotation clockwise, three counterclockwise. Ring finger and index finger of your right hand are pinching together and it does the rotations. Left hand is outstretched and palm facing towards where the communicator will be. Say the name of the person you wish to contact and—" a soft click filled the room and Miya whipped her head to the door, standing up quickly.
"Miya, what are you doing here?" The man seemed to purr lazily. Abri narrowed her eyes at him and bit her tongue. It was a trick. Now the secret is out and it's all my fault, Abri thought bitterly.
"Nothing sir. I just came to check on the prisoner," Miya said, her eyes darting to Abri, trying to silently tell her that she won't tell Apollo. The man hummed, his voice a soft buzz that had her hairs standing on edge.
"You may leave Miya. The little girl and I have some matters to attend to." The man told her, not even glancing back. Abriheit's mind seemed to run wild as she tried to find a reason for them to be alone. Her eyes caught Miya's and Miya gave her a nod, no words needed to be exchanged. Miya would get her out as soon as possible. She just needs to hold on a bit more.
The door closed with a dull bang.
"Little girl, I hope you know that you haven't been very helpful for the team," Apollo told her, stepping slowly into the room.
"I don't know, I feel like I'm helping Natu Diana plenty."
"Don't be stupid little girl, you haven't helped me."
"I'll help you once I'm dead!" Abri spat out, her small eyes narrowed.
"Very well. If that's what you want," Apollo stepped closer, drawing his sword at his side. Abri's breath hitched as she stared. With a deep exhale, Abri closed her eyes.
"Do it then. Long Live Natu Diana." Those were her last words as her breath left her body.
Miya's eyes widened and she stepped back shakily. The dull thud of Abriheit's body hitting the ground bounced around her mind. She closed her eyes and shook her head furiously—hoping, no praying, to any god that she won't become like the little girl. Miya turned and ran, her black hair whipped her back as she ran.
Don't worry Abriheit, Miya thought, I'll avenge you. I'll tell them what you did. I'll end this war.
