Human Culture
The Death deity is known as Cadllyn, and is an agender deity. The start (cad) is Welsh meaning 'battle' and originates from Caedda (more on that later). Llyn is Welsh for 'lake' and comes from lyn. Cadllyn is considered the twin of the deity for Life. Cadllyn was given the duty of guarding and watching over the souls of those who have passed, as well as collecting their souls. However, this was too hard for one being so Cadllyn was split into two different beings.
Chad is one of these two beings. Chad comes from the Old English name meaning Caedda (which has an unknown meaning), which is possible based on the Welsh word cad. Chad appears as a male human with three sets of wings and is said to have three eyes - one on his forehead where eyes normally sit on a human and one on the back of each hand. Chad is responsible for guarding and watching over the souls in trylenn ir guotig bwydeb.
Lyn is the other of these two beings. Lyn is a variant of Lynn, which comes from an English surname derived from the Welsh word llyn which means 'lake'. Lyn is female and is responsible for collecting the souls of the dead and taking them to trylenn ir guotig bwydeb (I have no idea how to say that). Lyn appears as a phoenix, and because of this phoenixes are regarded as creatures that sybolise the afterlife, new beginnings, new growth, after death, and rebirth.
Trylenn ir guotig bwydeb is a series of Old Welsh words (with the exception of bwydeb, I found that somewhere else and is said to be welsh). Trylenn is old Welsh meaning protection/refuge (noun). Ir means 'for' (casual conj./prep.). Guotig means 'after' (prep.), while bwydeb means life/animation/existence. Basically, trylenn ir guotig bwydeb means refuge for after life. This is where souls go after death and are watched over by Chad; it is said to appear however you want and where you will be in comfort until elbid diued.
Elbid (old Welsh meaning 'world') diued (old Welsh meaning 'end') means world end, basically. It literally means what it translates to. Humans believe that everything will eventually end, including the gods/deities.
Elven Culture
The elves that believe when you die, your spirit is taken by Merrow, a humanoid spirit creature that lives in the water. Merrow takes the spirits into the depths of the ocean, travelling on a journey so dark and treacherous that spirits lose who they once are. It is when you get to the bottom of the ocean that the Merrow releases you, and your spirit rises back up and takes on a new form, and thus you are reborn/reincarnated as something born anew.
