Darcy
Another day, another nickel.
Or atleast that's what people say. Let's just skip to the whole pendant mumbo-jumbo.
My pendant is a simple silver cross. The necklace so beautiful, so stunning, oh how I wish I could show it off without a single worry. The only problem; I don't want to find my soul mate. I want to avoid finding my soul mate for as long as I can. You could say I have... a past and I really don't want to get into that.
School. This year is my final year. Senior year. Boy, am I glad. You see, high school is the easiest place to meet your soul mate. Your soul mate is in the same age range as you so if you were to be in middle school, high school, college, medical school, ecetera, finding your soul mate was dangerously easy. Someone- anyone could easily walk up to you and have a matching pendant.
Legend has it, most people end up falling in love and living their fairytale dreams. Meanwhile, others are completely miserable. Call me crazy but I have a terrible feeling at the pit of my stomach that I may be a miserable victim. You could say that the fact alone scares me shitless.

Today is my first day back at Cohasse High School. I used to live in our family lake house here in Cohasse but we ended up moving to Newbridge for unknown reasons. I found out that we moved here because my father worked for government, something I already knew, but they needed him in Newbridge since he was one of the best workers they had and Newbridge was one of our best cities. My mother and I moved back to our lake house in early fall due to my father's death.
The government sent us back to Cohasse and let's just say I look like quite the fool being a "new" student in the middle of fall which also happens to be the middle of the senior year. It was tough. Getting new pendants and moving a few towns back to our old house where the memories of our family lived was tiring.
Now here I am, walking through the scattered hall of people who could give less of a damn about my presence here. I most definitely wasn't popular before I left. until I reach my first class. Fortunately, my first class was American Literature. English was my best subject my whole life.
I stepped into the class looking around to see most of my peers chatting amongst themselves. Some of which I recognized, some of which I could care less to pay attention to. I haven't been here since 9th grade so a lot of things seem to have changed.
Spotting a familiar face, I quietly padded my way to an empty desk next to my old best friend, Stevie Summers. Her features were slightly different. Her hair was shoulder-lengthed, the bottom half being blonde. Her eyes were the same shade of chocolate brown that I remembered but now she wore a bit of makeup.
Stevie sat with her elbow propped up on the desk and her head resting in her hand while the other hand skimmed through her iPhone. Typical Stevie Summers.
"Hi. I'm Darcy." I squeaked.
"Hello! I'm-" Stevie started. When her head had finally rose, her eyes nearly buldged out of her head in shock at seeing me again. "Darcy! Oh, my God! I missed you so much! I mean, I know we kept in touch but still. It's so great to see you in person again!" She squealed all while hugging me in a tight embrace.
Yup. She's still the chirpy and cheeky Stevie that I remember. She was my best friend before I moved away. We've been partners in crime since 3rd grade. We both were bullied so we stood up for each other and soon enough, we found out that we were compatible besties for each other. We were both different and looked at weirdly all while being polar opposites but that's what attracted us together.
The bell had rung and the teacher had assigned us all a new project. Stevie and I had been paired together so instead of reading a novel as we were supposed to, we gossiped about everything. We had put our schedules together and found that we had 3 classes together. I'm not so much of a shy girl so I didn't worry about being alone in my other classes.
