The air in this living room was tense. Ever since Darcy left for Harry, Scarlett remained in Darcy's room with no words and a locked door, so all we had left to do was sit here and wait for Harry and Darcy to come back. Both sets of twins had fallen asleep as Fizzy and Lottie held them. Louis had gone to the kitchen for some water but I knew he was really worried about his new best friend.

What seemed odd was Mandy's nervousness. Don't get me wrong, both of us, as mothers, are very nervous but she seemed as if she knew more about the situation then I did. Of course we both knew about the girls' illnesses and the kids and men (except for Louis and his dad) don't but maybe she knew something else.

Dan sat beside me, kissing my hair and rubbing circles on my hand with his thumb. Mandy, on the other hand, didn't want Brian, or anyone for that matter, touching her or comforting her. She just sat on the armchair, alone. I wanted so badly to comfort her, mum to mom, but I don't want to be shooed away.

I finally stood up from the couch and spoke softly, "I'm going to the kitchen to check on Lou." The girls and men nodded to me but Mandy continued staring off into space.

I walked into the kitchen where my eldest son poured himself yet another glass of water. His head flicked up to look at me before he pushed the glass toward me and grabbed another for himself. I silently grasped the glass of water and took a few short sips. Louis faced me and did the same, watching me as I did so.

I drank half the glass as he finished his and placed it in the sink. Once our glasses were in the sink, we gave each other stressed looks before my son walked into my arms and hugged me. I always welcomed my kids with open arms. I wanted them to know that in times of distress or heart ache, I will always be here. That's exactly what I'm doing now.

"Mum, do you think Harry's okay?" he asked softly.

I nodded. "Darcy will find him. If he's not okay then she'll help him. I'm sure of it."

As if on cue, the door swung open and both Harry and Darcy walked in. Harry's arm was wrapped over her shoulders as her arm was around his waist. Their faces, though, we tired and tear-stained. Stressed and a mixture of happy and sad. Soon, Scarlett appeared.

"I heard the door." she said softly. Darcy ran into her arms and whispered something in her ear. The two tired looking girls asked all of us to wake the eldest twins and sit together.

Fizzy and Lottie woke Daisy and Phoebe, Mandy and I sat with Brain and Dan while we watched the girls stand with Harry. Louis walked slowly behind Scarlett with a confused face. Before the girls could begin to talk, the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it!" Louis said, jogging toward the door.

"I asked Stevie to come over." Darcy said, slightly raised her hand as fast as it went down.

Soon enough, Louis walked in with Stevie and sat down on the couch. The minute they sat down, all our attention focused on the nervous identical twins.

"We have good news and bad news. Bad new first." Darcy started.

Darcy

Scarlett and I took our time telling everybody the bad news about our illnesses. Occasionally we'd have to pause to catch our breathes or let them sob for a few minutes but we said everything we had to say. By the end, no questions were asked and everything was silent save the sniffles and silent sobs.
