"The day that I was in the office at the Town Hall and you walked in, they took us, remember?" Darcy nodded. "They took you and me but they separated us. Your dad followed you, of course, but they took me straight to the Hanging Room. I was locked in a cell for hours on end - starving, dehydrated, sick to my stomach. Anyways, I was waiting for them to take you into the cell across from me but... you never came. In fact, your dad did."

Flashback

My stomach rumbled in the deafening silence. My mouth was no longer damp like it was supposed to be, but dry - like a desert. My head was whirling in different directions yet I had not moved a muscle. My eyes blurred as the world moved in sight but my hazel orbs had not shifted from their stare at the steel, dull door of another room to this hell.

For countless hours I had awaited for my love to be dragged through the gate of hell and into the jail cell across from mine so I can talk to her - hear her voice and see her face one last time. To see a pearly smile, glowing eyes, button nose, and her baby face that I've always admired. To hear her speak and laugh - a song ringing through my ears though no music nor lyrics are heard.

That was my last dying wish. But she never came.

"Darcy." I whimpered softly, almost inaudibly. "Darcy, don't leave me. Please, I'm sorry."

I didn't want to assume - no, I could never - that she had already become the angel she always was, only not on earth anymore. But I did. I thought they took my baby's life away. My precious Darcy who deserved no such thing. I thought she was already gone so I gave up. I kept telling myself that maybe Scott improvised or negotiated some kind of agreement but there's always that scenario that it didn't work.

With no hope at all, I sang a song I had written for Darcy, waiting for my death to be brought apon me. "I need your love to light up this house, I wanna know what you're about. I wanna feel you, feel you tonight. I wanna tell you that it's alright. I need yo-"

I was cut off by the giant steel door opening. My eyes fluttered closed and, if I had the energy, my eyes would've probably teared up. I was more than ready to join Darcy up in heaven whether my death is harsh or not.

The pitter-patter of quick footsteps made their way on the concrete floor to my cell and the metal door was being unlocked - but it sounded like the guard, or whomever it may be, was rushing. The door quickly but quietly opened and soon my body was being shaken.

"Ashton." a man whispered. "Ashton wake up. Wake up, you gotta go."

My eyelids separated, springing open as they looked at the one and only Scotty Raine. My hazel eyes met his blue-ish green ones and he looked panicked. "W-What?"

"Listen Ashton, I got Darcy out of death penalty. You need to run. Go. Get as far away from this place as you can and when Darcy is out of this hell-hole you go take care of her, you hear me, son?" Scott whispered.

"I-I don't know if I can." I weakly shook my head.

His hand rummaged through the pocket of his black blazer, he pulled out a plastic wrap of 2 chocolate chip cookies, a mini bottle of water and 5 dollars. He took the 5 dollars back. Whoops. Oh no, wait he handed me 10 instead. "Eat and drink, now. This should hold you up until you're out. Use the 10 dollars for more food and drinks if you happen to stop at a gas station."
