Scarlett
Darcy looked scared - panicked. I'll admit, I am too. She stood in the doorway of the living room looking as if she'd seen a ghost. Her face was pale and her entire body noticeably shook. Her voice shook. She held hard eye contact. It's everything I do when I'm nervous or panicked.
I offered to drive to the hospital, seeming as though I was the calm one in this situation. I was a bit fidgety right now but Darcy wouldn't talk and I didn't think I wanted to know about what's going on as I drove so I wasn't too nervous.
I pressed the brakes at a stop light and looked over to my identical twin. She stared out of the window in front of her and tapped her leg on the carpet at 1,000 mph (not literally but it seemed like it). I pressed my hand down on her bouncing leg and gave her a concerning look.
"How bad is it?" I asked.
Darcy shook her head but didn't dare remove her stare from out of the window. "I don't know."
As far as I knew, it had to do with a rare condition that we didn't really know much about because only less than 10 people in the world had it and we were two of them. Because it's so rare, there's no medical name or anything of that sort, we kind of just... have it. No one knows how and no one knows why.
Way too soon than expected, I was pulling into a parking space near the front of the hospital. Darcy didn't move and neither did I. Her leg was bouncing way faster than before and she continuosly cracked her knuckles.
I reached over the console and grabbed her hands. She stopped moving and gave me a worried look. "It'll be fine, Darc. We're in this together. Who knows what might happen?"
She blew a long breath of air through her nose. "Doctor Hamill said it was bad news about our illness."
My stomach sunk but I refused to let it show. "Let's just go inside and get it over with. Then we can go back to our family, yeah?"
Darcy stared at me and lifted one side of her lips before nodding. "Yeah." she sighed.
I exited the car, followed by Darcy and we walked inside. Right by the front desk stood Doctor Hamill and another older looking doctor. I held Darcy's hand as we walked to the two tall men, waiting for them to say something.
Doctor Hamill's head snapped up and he gave us a sad smile. "Hello ladies." he curtly nodded, "It's nice to see you again. Of course, Darcy you know Doctor Roberts," he gestured to the man beside him and then looked at me, "Scarlett, I'd like you to meet Doctor Roberts. He's been Darcy's doctor while she grew up and he studies illnesses."
Doctor Roberts looked about 45 with black and gray slicked back hair. Square, silver glasses hung on the bridge of his nose and he smiled a genuine yellowish but wide smile. He stuck out my hand, as did I. "Very nice to meet you, Ms Tomlinson."
"Nice to meet you, as well." I shook his hand.
Darcy hadn't said anything since we walked in and she honestly looked like she was going to burst with anxiety. I think the doctors noticed as well because they began leading us to a room. We entered a room that looked much like an office with a hospital bed in it. Kind of like a nurse's office at school.
"Please take a seat together on the bed and we'll begin." Doctor Hamill said sweetly.
Darcy pulled my hand gently and brought me to the bed where she and I sat side-by-side, legs crossed and slighty slouched. Our heads moved simultaneously as we both watched the doctors sit down in wheely chairs.
Doctor Roberts shook his head and chuckled. "Man, you two really are identical."
"Alright, can you tell us what the bad news is and please try not to use medical terms. Don't sugar-coat it and just tell us bluntly." Darcy said sweetly with a slight bit of a panicky attitude.
